Guest guest
Hi Aine, I consider myself multi-lingual. A Scot by birth, English relatives, grew up in Canada, live 2 miles from the US border. I speak and understand many versions of the King's/Queen's English! Have lots of ish terms I would love to add to the Vocabulary list but some sound rather impolite. The meaning is very different. Dad was in a business that involved several cocktail receptions for visiting Poo Bahs. Mum was extremely shy but tried to make social conversation. A 'Big Name', Dad's boss, came up one time. Mum, in all innocence, said 'that he must get a good screw'. The room went silent. Screw is a Scot's word for salary! Dad must have been very good at his job not to get fired for that one. This is one of my favourite Mum stories. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. PC-to-Phone calls for ridiculously low rates.
