Hi folks, Tania, GREAT website, I agree

that it can help an owner make a tough decision. I hope this dogs parents

see the light soon…

This is kind of an important subject to

me, so I am going to bring up one last point. We all believe that as

patient advocates, we make recommendations. ,Ideally those recommendations are

based on our knowledge, our professionalism, our love of that particular

patient, and are the BEST thing that can be offered for that pet. Those

recommendations are made to ease pain (“take this med” or “do

this exercise”) or ease suffering (“please let your beloved friend

go to heaven now”) .

Our recommendations are made with 100%

commitment on our parts and our owners take our advice the best that they

can. It makes me upset/frustrated to hear a vet say that they can’t

tell an owner to euthanize. I feel that it is our obligation to guide our

owners to what we believe to be the best for their pet. I believe that is

the reason they chose us in the first place, right? So, in my opinion, we

need to stop acting like human doctors who believe that euthanasia is “playing

god” and make solid recommendations for every life stage of our patients,

from first behavioral visits to exercise and weight loss, to rehabilitation,

and to euthanasia as well.

Sorry that got kind of long winded, have a

good day all!

Pam

dog giving up

I have to agree, i

think this dog is staying to appease the owners...i know all of us in rehab see

this all the time, the cases where the owner can’t let go. I am not

sure if you know the Petloss website (www.petloss.com)

but often when the owner does not see the signs, they almost always ask me what

i think, i never tell an owner to euthanize, but i direct them to this website,

as it is very good and gives owners signs to look for and helps them find the

‘right’ decision for their dog.

I hope this helps
