Guest guest
Tom McCaffrey talks about the boy who was doomed for a residential placement before they found Dr. Carbone and proper reinforcement. I think Tom states that for 5 or 8 weeks, for 6 hours a day the child's 1:1 therapist placed NO DEMANDS and was only " a giver " . She would walk by and rub the child, drop a skittle, wink at him across the room and low and behold the child started coming to her and the WORLD SHIFTED!!!! That child never needed to leave home. I agree with all the recent posts. Look for the child's reinforcer, don't take away the stim toy, utilize it and then slowly.....slowly change the focus. So many professionals feel stressed to make " immediate progress " . Always remember, it is a " marathon not a sprint " . Pair, Pair, Pair and Pair again......
