Guest guest
Hi Barb Welcome to the list. My name is Tracey and my 11 year old daughter Skylar was diagnosed autistic at the age of 3. What chat room are you in? I have a few minutes to chat before I have to go to the school to do the milk program. Tracey new here. 9 year old daughter in the spectrum hi everyone... I'm Barb and i have 2 daughters... michelle (12) neuro- typical and christine (9) dx'd as 'in the spectrum'... HFA i've never met anyone else, around where i live, that has a daughter in the spectrum... lots of boys, but no girls. i would love to hear about other girls and how they behave so i can compare my christine to other girls... (i know all children arent the same) our school doesnt believe that she has HFA because she doesnt fit into certain criteria of typical autistic kids... she wants to be around other kids... wants to play games and do things with others, BUT she doesnt have any social skills... she doesnt know how to act around others. she finds a friend and the other child is her friend for a few days... a week, or so then they dont want anything to do with her anymore because she is so overwhelming... she cant read body language... i tell other kids that if they would just be nice to her then she will be nice back but then she does inappropriate things, such as hugging excessively or tickling them... they are 'trying' to be nice to her anyway and they dont want her doing these things but she doesnt have a clue... i cant let her go out of our yard without worrying every second that she will be 'bothering' someone... she gets into fights with other kids in the neighborhood where she is hitting them! usually over frustration over not fitting in or not being able to do what they are doing because either, they dont want her to or that she cant meet her own very high expectations of herself... she gets extremely frustrated with these kinds of things... (not being able to meet her own expectations of herself) she throws tantrums where she bangs her fists on the counter, jumps up and down and literally pulls her hair with both hands while screaming. there are a lot of behaviors i could continue to write about but i look forward to hearing some of your stories about your daughters in the spectrum. thanks for being here :-) Barb Autism_in_Girls-subscribe ------------------------ Autism_in_Girls-unsubscribe
