Guest guest
I am new to this group and I have a question I was hoping someone could help me with. I am currently working with a 5 year old boy with autism. He is time toilet trainined and will stay dry if prompted by myself or his parents. Very rarely has he ever just walked into the bathroom by himself. He has some verbal language paired with the use of picture point book. I have tried to shape some of his verbal language into requests for the bathroom. We have put pictures of bathroom all around his house to help ellicit requests, but we have not had any luck. If he has an accident it doesn't seem to bother him. I only see him 1 hour a month so it's difficult for me to be very hands on in the implementation of anything. I am looking to see if anyone has any ideas I can give to this family to help teach this young boy to initiate using the bathroom. He doesn't really have any big reinforcing items. He has a lot of little things that he likes, otherwise I would have isolated a reinforcer just for initiation. Any advice would be greatly appectiated. Thanks.
