You know, , I think it really varies, but you're right in that

many of the kids seem to really want to socialize. My daughter is in

an autistic pre-school class with 5 kids including herself. She spends

most of her time with another girl who likes to interact in a similar

way (lots of physical stuff). There is another girl who spends most of

her time humming to herself and eating, and does not speak or make eye

contact, and there are two boys, one who is very vocal and

" high-functioning " but has no social skills and doesn't like physical

interaction at all (in fact when my daughter touches him he shoves her

to the ground or punches her), and the other boy just rocks from side

to side and occasionally screams but has no desire to interact

whatsoever. There is just so much variation on the spectrum.
