Guest guest
There seems to be a lot more information coming out on the GFCF diet for childrem on the spectrum. I was wondering if anyone has experience with either of these two 'non-behavioral methods' (or in conjunction with ABA)in the treatment of children with autism. I have seen much progress in a particular child, but there were so many interventions going on at one time- the parents I've encountered aren't just doing one thing. It's difficult finding comparative research !
Guest guest
I met a parent at the rally in dc whod NOT done ABA, she said she had in past " considered " it but it seemed " too expensive " and she did chelation and GFCF and saw gains in her son, i had my boys with me, and she and several others commented on how well behaved my boys were, (i think the boys were TRYING to impress others...LOL ) any way so i didnt get to meet her son and see for myself, hes a tad older than my boys and i wouldve loved to have seen more kids there. But she did say she was pleased with the results, and encouraged me to give GFCF a try...or to at least remove dairy for a week or so and see if i noticed any improvements. To date i havent tried yet. I may...just to see if theres anything to it. Ive done ABA with my youngest hes ASD and not-so-non-verbal anymore hes labeling and asking for one-syllable items, he repeats when you say " say-please " or " say-anything " but hes not " conversational " ...his stims are all gone, his aggressions are gone ( i have to be careful with that one because the last time i bragged to a woman in a waiting room (who also had an autistic child) that spencers aggressions were gone..he immediately as if on cue came over to me and proceeded to pull my hair and slap my face!...go figure...(speech, OT, PT floortime) and Speech, OT,PT and Social skills therapy with my oldest whos AS, and Speech, OT and remedial tutoring for my middle son whos ADHD. So ya never know maybe if i take dairy out of the diet for a week say, then see results in all 3 boys. That would convince me..i just dont know how id handle the cereal kings without milk!!!! LOL my boys LOVE cereal!
