Well, I have to disagree here -- " surgical sterilization " is also commonly

used in English to refer to tubal ligation, which *is* a form of birth

control -- so I'm not sure that the doctor who wrote the text is totally

wacky (although s/he may have done a poor cut and paste job!).

Oh yes ! Marla, you're right. I forgot this aspect of barbarian

contraception !

In both cases, the result is the same, but the second one is supposed to be

volunteered by the patient, while the first one is most often the

consequence of a pathology.
