Lalli School of Education Carondelet Symposium - 3rd Floor 1009 Madison Avenue Albany, NY Time: 9:00am til 4:00pm Cost: $100.00 per person Workshop Description: Teaching children with Autism, through the Analysis of Verbal Behavior has great benefits to help learners improve their ability to communicate at home, school and community. This workshop will present a conceptual analysis of Verbal Behavior to assist teachers, parents and professionals in how to use the motivational variable to effectively teach children. This specialized approach to instruction can assist in teaching social, play and language skills, useful in everyday environments and can be very beneficial to school districts, therapists and parents. A major emphasis will be placed on identifying methods to develop and maintain motivational variables (motivative operations) to teach language in naturally occurring activities. Through his research of the motivational variable, at his clinic and school in California, and his work with families and children, Dr. Partington will present information on the value and application of this to teaching. Participants will learn to use pairing, development of learner cooperation, instructional control, manding and using mixed verbal behavior teaching sessions to prevent escape and avoidance behavior. In addition, participants will identify the critical teaching skills in order to provide appropriate educational services which may be effective for children with autism.
