Guest guest
We started in September a new school that is VB driven with an outside consultant that comes in to suggest. My son is having a rapid decline in speech approxs, manding, and an increase in behavior. (The consultant has not " seen my son yet " so his goals are driven by the school). They explained in a recent meeting " he makes little to no attempt to communicate " .(What happened to nonverbal attempts too?) He has apraxia/dyspraxia and is an older child (in the 2 digits:)) who recently acquired speech. Prior to them telling me this, I assumed they just were not understanding or recognizing his approxs so I encouraged them to really get to know him. Well, they assessed him and his ABLLS from his private therapist and myself looks very different then theirs. " Credit " given again that they just didn't know hime yet.?! Well, I received some data that they have begun to run in ITT-I have a question is H-2 run in ITT then NET and if so how the heck is a child going to " fillin " if he is not engaging in the activity and finds sitting across from the instructor at a table totally non motivating? How does someone bridge the ABlls with a child who has Apraxia and probably will not speak completely clear. I believe teaching the sign with approx is totally viable and he will signwith some requests and approximate spontaneously. They are currently working on him labeling his R+ objects yet they marked them in his Ablls as the recognized ones? I am totally confused! Suggestions -ideas- I am losing that beautiful voice that I waited soooo long to hear! I am a parent and I just feel this edge of tension building that they are starting to resent my ?'s and general suggestions of what we found that works at home. I am financially stretched so thin (like most parents) but I am wondering if I should consider bringing in a consultant ( it has been 7 weeks and their consultant has not had access yet?) or would that shut them down further? If you would like to privately respond please feel free !THANKS ahead for any & all responses!
