Guest guest
To all, We have been at this over 5 years... Our child was considered severe apraxia..before most knew what that meant! Advice: if the therapy you pursue for your child is NOT RESULTING IN IMPROVEMENTS..look at the TEACHING? What is not happening for your child.. and WHY? My child received great VB. Trial and error, good and Very bad VB teaching along the way. But he made progress every year on his ABLLS. He mands like a trooper and is in an integrated now in an integrated 1st grade. He is no longer apraxic and we attribute a big part of that to VB. He is, however, still very much a child with autism! Good luck! Guest guest
To the question of whether or not apraxia is a true issue... I would look at it the same way I look at autism. Clearly there is a valid diagnosis for both autism and apraxia. Both are based on a set of behaviors. With the right teaching methods, some children can learn new behaviors that would take them out of the original diagnostic criteria. This is not to say that they are " cured " , but that they no longer display the behaviors that led to a diagnosis in the first place. An argument could be made that auditory processing disorder may fall into this category as well. So I wouldn't say that apraxia isn't a true issue just as I wouldn't say that about autism. But I also don't treat autism, I treat the behaviors that lead to a diagnosis of autism. Just as when I have a student with apraxia, I don't treat the apraxia. I treat the behaviors that lead to a diagnosis of apraxia. <http://www.autismbehaviorconsult.com/> Everyone Can <http://www.autismbehaviorconsut.com/> Learn e Quinby, M.Ed., BCBA Behavior Analyst 6165 Mountain Laurel Court <http://maps./py/maps.py?Pyt=Tmap & addr=6165+Mountain+Laurel+Court & c sz=Pipersville%2C+PA+18947 & country=us> Pipersville, PA 18947 e@... www.autismbehaviorconsult.com <http://www.autismbehaviorconsult.com/> tel: fax: 215-766-3832 215-766-3832 <http://www.plaxo.com/signature> Signature powered by Plaxo <http://www.plaxo.com/signature> Want a signature like this? <https://www.plaxo.com/add_me?u=8589960430 & v0=50595 & k0=1679972177> Add me to your address book... >From: " dailytrials " <dailytrials@...> >Subject: ABLLS & Apraxia is the ? > >I am looking for opinions & experiences on how they collaborate or >contradict.
