Guest guest
Here is a link to good reviews of PDA's and pocket PCs. http://www.zdnet.com/ I have a really good one that is also a Pocket PC. It's kind of pricy, but I love it- it's very useful and entertaining. It's a Toshiba e750. I have my whole life on that thing. I have a mini finance program to keep track of my spending, pocket streets, notes- to write down things so I don't forget, Excel spreadsheets ( Buttons' urinalysis information, time- tracked, gas mileage, etc.) all my appointments and tasks with reminders that go off in the morning. ( I hate that!) It's also a calculator, and even has WiFi capabilities for wireless internet surfing, but I need to get a firewall or something to protect the PC. OH, it plays MP3 downloads, has a jack for normal headphones, has cool games, etc. If I could only get Outlook to work on the main computer and sync all my email. This is my Dad's computer (my four year old one died) and he has Outlook Express, and we have 2 different profiles. I do sync everything else. I even have a woodsy screen saver on mine. There are billions of things you can get for them. Of course, like a duface, I put my pocket pc in my book bag, and being totally absent minded, slam dropped the bag with all the books in it. I cracked the screen on the PDA and now I had to send it off to be fixed, and I'm off track. At least I synced all my tasks on the main computer so I don't forget. The only trouble with the PDA is that it reminds me all the time and I don't want to look at it, because my interests and perservations take time away from what I'm SUPPOSE to be doing. So I don't look at it sometimes and miss things, but that's my fault for being so silly. I'm learning my lesson with that. Jeanette Re: PDAs (was something much longer) I gotta get a PDA. I can't type anywhere near as fast on " Maree " but it's still great for those moments when I don't want to (or can't) grab the stylus. It also reads/writes the same memory sticks that the Sony cameras and notebooks do, so given I already had a Sony notebook and later was given a Sony digital camera, I can move pictures, movies, files, programs from one to the next without cables. >Of course, like a duface, I put my pocket pc in my book bag, and being >totally absent minded, slam dropped the bag with all the books in it. I >cracked the screen on the PDA and now I had to send it off to be fixed, >and I'm off track. Whoops! A huge part of the reason I picked the Clie NX60 type is because its shell is made of metal rather than plastic, so it would be a lot harder for me to accidentally destroy it! (I do things like that all the time, especially as I am very clumsy.) Instead of having just a flip-top cover or something similar, the whole PDA folds in half clamshell-style so the keyboard/button half protects the screen and vice-versa. Thus far I've dropped it on hard surfaces, down the stairs, spilled drinks on it, etc. more than once already, but the hard case protects it. The screen can be used flip-up like a laptop, or twist around more like one of those new " tablet " computers so the screen is flat against the keyboard for writing via hand or easier reading. I leave it turned on in the cradle next to my bed in flip-up mode with a very nice clock (SplashClock) for me to check in the middle of the night and alarms set to wake me up in the morning. Sony has info on it here: http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/micros/clie/models/nx60.html Or if that is too bandwidth-heavy, simple pictures of what it looks like... Keyboard/flip-up mode: http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/micros/clie/media/home_nx60_device.jpg Tablet mode: http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/micros/clie/media/nx60features/palm-main.jp\ g Should be pretty cheap these days, considering it is now listed as discontinued... Guest guest
I went with a Kyocera 7135, which is a Palm and a cellphone. I can do wireless email and web access with it, as well as the usual PDA stuff. It supports Verizon CDMA, including their high(er) speed data service. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks Jeanette! Toshiba e750 I'll check it out. Do you strap it to yourself during the day? I would need to do that. Camille

Guest guest
I *love* my Palm! I am lost without it. If I had the money, I'd buy a Kyocera cell or a Blackberry (cell, two-way pager & PDA in one). I don't like the feel of the Clie or the m1XX range, but Palm m1XX is a corporate standard. I originally had a Palm IIIxe for two years until it broke - what a great workhorse. I am not in favour of Windows CE machines, (spent too much time in Windows to like it), but there are some great (wireless) CE machines out there. Their local plan gives you 1000 minutes instead of 500. Internet access same as voice unless you have a data plan (they don't advertise this fact, but I think it still works that way). $50 for unlimited CDMA1xRTT data (around 50kb/s) with or without a voice plan. They have some cheaper plans ($30 for 5MB data, $35 for 150 minutes nationwide voice or data) The Kyocera 7135 is a PDA so it gets the wireless sync rate, not the higher PC rate, but you can still hook it up to a PC or Mac and use it as a wireless modem. I have used it that way. Ride the Music AndyTiedye

Are the organizer and phone functions separate, and can they be used simultaneously? For instance, if you are using some sort of hands free setup for phone, can you check your calendar, etc. while you are talking?

The only limitation is that you can't make a data call and a voice call at the same time. >For instance, if you are using some sort of hands free setup for phone, can >you check your calendar, etc. while you are talking? > > Yes you can. It has a speakerphone mode built in too. Ride the Music AndyTiedye
Guest guest
Hi, Hmmm, very tempting. Kyocera 7135. I really appreciate your explanation of the charges.
