Guest guest
Sounds like a great step!!  One step leads to another.  Great going! First OCD Success I'm so proud of her tonight  One of her major thought triggers is the shower. I have not been able to get her in the shower since Sunday I think. She was all ready to hit it tonight and the thoughts came.  She wanted me to wash her hair, so I started sudsing it for her and she was so angry and rightly so because she said she should be able to take shower in private. I sudsed her hair and asked her if she could finish it which she did.  Her major obstacle is shaving her legs. Tonight, I shaved the calf of one leg and asked if she could shave the thigh.. which she did! I asked her if she wanted to try shaving the other leg and she did it! YAY!!  I told her I was going to leave her to shower the rest in private and she was even able to do that while I was on the front porch smoking.  She is so proud of herself and I am so happy for her! This is the first time she has been able to talk back to the thought/fear and act out against what her head was telling her.  No clue if we did that right since we haven't started EBT yet, b ut a success is a success ~~Kathy  gkathy40@... http://www.myspace.com/clearingachannel yahoo messenger id gkathy40@... Guest guest
YAY, love to read about success. That's great she was able to continue. Even if you have to again " get her started, " that works towards success if she can push herself to finish. Let us know how the next shower goes. > > I'm so proud of her tonight > > One of her major thought triggers is the shower. I have not been able to get her in the shower since Sunday I think. Guest guest
Yeah for your daughter, Kathy! Every success is important, no matter how small. We went to Mc's last night and my DD ate her whole meal WITH HER HANDS! This was a big deal for her! Tomorrow comes the increase from 25mg Zoloft to 50. Guest guest
That's great, Debbie! It always cracks me up the things that OCD people celebrate. Most people just wouldn't get it. I remember celebrating because our son (with contamination issues) ate food that he dropped on the floor. Rofl Now, I wouldn't want to eat it, but I saw it for the victory that it was for him. Our son is wearing jeans this year!!! Then he moved on to some Khaki type pants. I'm doing such a happy dance. He hasn't been able to wear anything except things with elastic in the waist, since he was 7. Too uncomfortable. This year (at 16) he finally overcame it. FINALLY! YAY! It's been a problem over the years because there are some places where sweats or shorts just aren't appropriate, but you can't really explain it. . . So, we've just had to miss some weddings, funerals, etc. It's great when they are able to move forward. Do you suspect it is due to the meds? Are you seeing small improvements with her? Guest guest
Yes, BJ, overall, she is doing much better. We haven't started any therapy yet, so I don't know how much is the meds and how much is her attempts to fight it on her own. If she expresses a fear, like about the eating yesterday, she did ask if it was " ok " to eat with her hands. So I turned it around and asked her " are you hungry " - yes, " does the food look good " - yes!, " did you wash your hands? " -yes, " so what are you waiting for -dig in! " and she did. She's dropped 11 pounds now, so I don't mind her eating Mac's now and then! She does look good, and has asked me to buy her some new " smaller " jeans. Even though it wasn't a good way to lose some weight, it has actually helped her confidence as she always carried a bit extra on her frame. But as I posted recently, the places where we're still seeing symptoms is in her inability to physically touch someone else because she considers them " germy " . The constant questioning has improved and her anxiety has lessened, so I'm hoping the higher dose this weekend will show some effect. She says all the time, " I'm telling myself not to worry so much about things " , so she's trying. Guest guest
Once she starts using ERP, things should improve even more. Although, it's not uncommon for things to get stirred up a bit as they are fighting the OCD. I've heard some in here talk about their kids having trouble with siblings. It's the whole contamination thing. It will be something for her to work on when she starts therapy. It depends on where it falls on her hierarchy list, as to when it will be addressed though. The tougher stuff comes later. We had to wait a while for our son to get to some of the worst stuff. Our son had (still tries to flare up occasionally) contamination issues, but they seldom crossed over into family members. Although once in a while, he would ask me if I washed my hands. lol I would just laugh and say, " No. Was I supposed to? " . Rofl It would snap him out of it a bit, as we both laughed. He knew I had, but his OCD just needed to be 100% sure. They are so controlled by that wretched stuff. I would suspect that your daughter feels bad about feeling that way about her siblings too. Maybe you could explain to her siblings that she loves them but her OCD is making her feel that way. And that once she starts therapy, she will be able to work on it and it will get better. It's good she is trying. It takes BIG cooperation on their part, to get better, because the work is up to them. I had to learn to step back a bit and let Josh and therapist do it. I had always protected him and aided him, so it was hard for me, but I realized the importance of letting him learn to handle it. Someday, I won't be there to assist him through it, so he needs to be able to cope apart from me too. Nothing easy about OCD. <sigh> Glad to hear there is improvement, Debbie. It's such a relief when you see things going in the right direction. BJ > > Yes, BJ, overall, she is doing much better. Guest guest
Thanks, . You know, I just wonder if he sort of finally outgrew it. My niece was similar with clothing when she was young and got better when she got older.
