Guest guest
Carole, That is amazing! I sent the suggestion and felt foolish for doing so as I didn't know if it worked or not. If it helps one person, it was worth it. Donna R Do you want to read more about Lewy Body? You can also read the Thistle, the LBD Newsletter. Guest guest
Legs or feet cramping, I jump out of bed instantly and walk around a bit. The cramps go away. I have heard that a lack of potassium can cause it, as well as other things of which I can't remember. Guest guest
Okay....I know I'm tired and delirious but.......I put a bar of Zest at the end of my husband's feet (in between the sheets), and just for the heck of it, I put a large Spa bar of lavender soap at the end of my side and neither of us had any leg problems last night. Guest guest
I wonder if the brain is distracted with the smell of the soap and therefore, does not send messages of the pain of cramps or in the case of Restless Leg Syndrome the feelings of movement in the legs. It's a kind of distraction. Just thinking out loud. It is funny, if all it takes is a bar of soap placed in the sheets. Guest guest
found this among many other entries when i googled the soap thing . Think this explains it.Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2005 2:46 PM Subject: Natural Cure for Restless Leg Syndrome I stumbled upon your site looking for info on Restless Leg Syndrome, which I have had for at least 20 plus years, which also runs in my family. Up until a few years ago, I thought it was only a family disease, until my daughter found info about RLS. I was so relieved to see that my problem actually had a name. Just wanted to pass on a possible natural cure for RLS, which a friend passed on to me. She found the article in a newspaper, cut it out and gave it to me. The article stated that putting a new bar of soap under the bottom sheet down where the legs will be, will help with RLS. I didn't believe this could possibly work, but I tried it. It has been working for me for the past two weeks. My husband usually wakes me nightly to tell me that my feet are racing and that I am keeping him awake. I didn't tell him about the bar of soap as he would have thought I was crazy for trying. I did ask him today if he had noticed my legs kicking in the last two weeks, and he said no. I still haven't told him what I did as I want to give it more time to work, to see if it keeps on working. I don't know if this will work for others with RLS, but I did want to pass on the info to them so they could try it for themselves. Here is also a website where I found more info about using two bars of soap. Good luck to everyone out there with RLS. http://www.lacetoleather.com/restlesslegsyndrome.html RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME Natural Ways to Relieve Restless Leg Syndrome - More Than Home Remedies To stop restless leg syndrome, put two new bars of soap (unwrapped) in the sheets of your bed. Put the soap on top of the bottom sheet and under the top sheet, down at the foot of the bed, one near each corner. Your legs don't have to touch the soap, just leave them in the sheets. We know this works with Lever 2000, but it will probably work with any bar of soap. Then you can get a restful sleep again. Correction of iron deficiency may improve symptoms for some patients (Iron Tablets). Michele, Owensboro, KY P.S. I used a new bar of Coconut Oil Soap that I wanted to try. I'm sure any type of bar soap should work. Why? I don't know, but it so far is working for me. Medical Reply This soap trick has made the rounds for several years already. Although some patients have reported success with this treatment, it does not work for the vast majority of RLS/PLMD patients. There is a very strong placebo (sugar pill) effect with RLS therapies that likely accounts for the observed benefits of this very strange treatment. How can this work? I am willing to give it a try, but it sounds like a urban legend to me. If any out there knows the reason why putting a bar up soap in bed with you stops leg cramps, please let me know, I am very curious. Dena in So.CA Mother (83) Lived in my home 10 months. Recently moved to a NH. On Hospice and is not currently taking any drugs. Was on Risperdal, Aricept, Prozac, Namenda, Clonzapam, Lisinipril. --- juperant@... wrote: > Okay....I know I'm tired and delirious but.......I > put a bar of Zest at the > end of my husband's feet (in between the sheets), > and just for the heck of it, > I put a large Spa bar of lavender soap at the end of > my side and neither of us > had any leg problems last night. Guest guest
I appreciate the fact that the person is giving it time, to make sure it does in fact work, to put a bar of soap under the sheet for RLS. If it is just the power of suggestion, that will wear off in time. So, she is smart for saying she will give it time. But, please do let us know if it works. I have heard from a Scientist friend that it is an old wives tale. Imogene Caregiver for my True Texas Gentleman husband of 35 years. He has AD and possibly LBD, is Taking Aricept and Risperdal. Age 72 in May.
