Guest guest
Hi, I'd like to add to this list that has been also discussed over the years " The Red Eyes " , it can be mistaken for pink eye. The eyes look red and watery and the eye lids, upper and lower, are bright red too .. A Q-Tip soaked with diluted baby shampoo and swiped around the eye lids uper and lower will take the redness away. My husband's doctor called it, Blufferitis or Bluffitis, (One of those names.) It is common with LBD. There is also a medication that is an ointment and comes in a tube that the doctor perscribed called,Maxitrol/Dexasporin, but baby shampoo works just as well. Guest guest
it's called blepheritis and there is usually crusty yellowish stuff stuck to the eye lashes. We use an eye wash for this for mom. I also apply dry eye drops/ointment for her as her eyes become quite sore. Guest guest
Mom needs daily eye care also for mucky red eyes. Her nurses told me it is from her eyes always being closed, that tears don't get to do their natural task of lubricating the eyes. Interesting this is a shared symptom as well. , Oakville Ont. Mom 92, 12 1/2 years " Parkinsons " 3 years ago LBD diagnosis, evident much longer in hindsight. Encouraged to give up her licence 6 years ago. Currently immobile, in tilt wheelchair, spoonfed pureed food. Spends most of days behind closed eyes. Eltroxin, Tylenol twice a day. > > > > > Hi Group- > > > > Wanted to comment to Jill and others. Guest guest
Ha! Now wouldn't that be something if we could get rid of them that easily...perhaps the runny nose is a way for the lewy bodies to escape too...and the incontinence...it seems there is a lot of leakage going on with this disease...and we didn't even talk about the drooling...thanks for the smile. Guest guest
Thanks for the chuckle - I am going to change my mind set to believe that the " leakage " is a gift (the lewies are escaping from her body) and not the annoying pain I have been taking them for! Guest guest
It's blepharitis, which is an inflammatory condition around the edges of the eye. Washing well with baby shampoo is recommended, warm compresses sometimes, but it can sometimes progress to where you need an antibiotic drop also. , > > > > > Hi Group- > > > > Wanted to comment to Jill and others. Guest guest
Blepharitis does occur a lot more in people with dry eyes, or Sjogren's syndrome. I have that, and I need eye drops most of the time, and have had several episodes of blepharitis over the years. So for those of us who have LO who have their eyes shut a lot, it's true, the normal lubricating tears can't do what they should do when the eyes are closed all the time. > > > > > > > > Hi Group- > > > > > > Wanted to comment to Jill and others. Guest guest
dad also had the crustiness in his eyes, but he had that for years, and unfortuantely it is one of the things that i inherited from him, our tear ducts do not work properly so what is normally wet 'sleep ' in peoples eyes were dry and crusty in ours. this could alos be caused by allergies, medications, and probably even lbd, my md adn eye doctor each told me use baby shampoo on cotton balls to gently cleanse my closed eyelids, and that helped it from hurting when you pulled the sleep off of the eye lids or lashes, hugs sharonm Date: 2006/03/24 Fri AM 10:17:38 EST To: LBDcaregivers Subject: Re: Runny Nose a.k.a.
