We have a lot in common! Several 50-somethings on here, as well as all other age groups. I think you will find this a safe place to share and learn from others' experiences on this journey. There is a lot of support, encouragement, and gentle listeners, so feel free to participate. Michele
Guest guest
Hello - I'm a 50 something too - I love my 50's - it is surely the first time I've ever been able to step back some from the food obsession. I've been working with a nutritional counselor since the first of the year which is nice as it is someone to discuss this openly with but this group, 's podcast, some spirituality kinds of things - all have helped a lot. We judge ourselves so harshly sometimes and we aren't just what we weigh - that is just a small part of who we really are. When I dig up old journals it really appalls me how much time I've wasted on this - even when I was thin. Just turned off Kathy Lee and Hoda (I'm off in the summer and sometime give in to the guilty pleasure) but they are all so slim talking about dieting. Enought of that - if you are one of the younger members of our group - congrats - if you can lick this now from the inside out - it will pay dividends for many years into the future, and the time wasted worrying so much about all this can be spent on much better things diane
Guest guest
Welcome Diane - I have to say you have my 'card' with looking back at old journals in terms of how much time I've wasted as well ... things I haven't done, things I've put off and time & energy spent on diets and programs. this program really feeds my mind & soul and am loving it! Guest guest
Ditto on the looking back:) I found a chart I made to chart my weightloss from last year the same time of the year. I weighed the exact same during the start, and never got to the finish:( My grandma would say, " either poo or get off the pot " . I think that is what I need to do with my weight. Either accept it or do something about it. Enought of this lamenting:) Quote of the Day " Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns. I am thankful that thorns have roses. Guest guest
I love that quote - wise Grandma's!! AND WE ALL are moving forward to our naturally slender selves (I rather enjoy 'stepping inside her' and feeling all those wonderful feelings!) Guest guest
HI Lara, Welcome...I'm new here myself...And to all the new members, welcome! I'm having a bit of a challenge keeping up this week. I enjoy listening to IOWL via podcast......It's nice to be a part of this group. Subject: Introduction To: insideoutweightloss Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 9:17 AM Hello Everyone, I have been lurking for a while, reading the posts and benefiting greatly from them. I've listened to 's podcasts up to #10 so far, and I bought the " Guided Journeys " . I did the " Appetite Adjuster " . It had an amazing affect on me. Yesterday I had a big lunch with some friends, and I really wasn't hungry for the rest of the day, so I skipped dinner, and went to bed at the usual time feeling light and healthy. Now that is something that never would have happened in the past! Neuro-linguistic programing is very interesting. I read a little on Wikopedia about it, and all I can say is, if it works and doesn't hurt anything, do it! I'm really looking forward to going on 's other " Guided Journeys " and listening to the rest of her podcasts. I think that what works well for me is to be given responses to tell myself; such as when I'm hungry I've learned to realize that hunger is a good thing (it's working!) and that I can wait a bit before I really need to eat. Usually that " bit " of time is longer than I ever realized it could be! The idea of continuous improvement, of " Kaizen " really is helping me to not give up on this. Though I have " fallen off track " and had a binge or two here and there, they are happening much less frequently and I'm finding that I actually want to stop eating before I really get uncomfortable; whereas before, I would eat until my stomach felt like it was going to burst! By the way of introduction, my name is Lara and I'm a 55 year old grandmom (5 children and 6 grandchildren) . I teach piano, voice, and classical guitar from my home. I am also the chanter and choir director at the Propher Elias Greek Orthodox church, which I've attended for the past 12 years. My two youngest sons (17 and 20) live at home with me and my husband on the Monterey Bay in CA. I homeschooled them for 10 years and loved every minute of it! Before that I was a preschool teacher for 10 years. I take classes at our local junior college (Cabrillo) every semester and have been trying to learn French for the past 4 years. I love to garden, cook, sew, sing and play the piano, read, and watch films.I am 5'1 " and weigh 134 pounds. I would like to lose about 20 pounds. I'm a lifetime member of Weight Watchers. I look forward to being a contributing member of this community, to both share my experiences and to learn from others'. Blessings to all, Lara
Guest guest
Hello Bullworker Group, and greetings from New Zealand. Last week I ordered a used $5 imitation bullworker on " TradeMe " (our equivalent of Ebay) to try it out and see if I would like the real thing. It arrived yesterday, and I think I am alredy ready to splurge on the whole package (Classic + Steel). It was extremely helpful to sign up for the group and to pore through the amazing file collection and some of the messages. It's a great resource, I'm grateful that it exists. I hope to find the time to read some of the old messages to absorb some of the information. Strangely, I have been attracted to the bullworker for a long time but this is the first one that I've bought. In my dorm on my last year of high school (early 1980s) there was a guy who used it the whole year. He bufffed up! Just trying the exercises on my cheap imitation, I can feel that it will work. I've lost my shape in the last four years and can really use the help. Anyhow... I guess this is enough information for an introduction. Looking forward to hanging around here---participating sometimes, lurking at other times. Wishing you all a beautiful day, :) Andy
