Guest guest
Trish, BACB.com is the website you are looking for to find out more about Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Criteria to take the BCBA exam includes: a Master's degree in related field, ABA coursework (4 courses including ABA I, II, III, IV), and a mentorship/supervisory period under a current BCBA. Once these three criteria are met, the person then must take and pass an extensive credentialing exam before they become a BCBA. You also need to remember that autism knowledge and/or experience is NOT a requirement ....some BCBA's are animal trainers at Sea World and some work for large businesses. So when seeking a BCBA to work with a child with autism, make sure that person who is a BCBA also has extensive autism background. Guest guest
trish, try bacb.com. It is the behavioral analysis certification board. Leif -----Original Message----- From: Trish <trishdm@...> Subj: [ ] BCBA Qualifications Date: Thu Jun 1, 2006 1:15 pm Size: 3K Hello, all. I am the mother of a 5 year old in a self contained Kindergarten class in District. During my recent CSE, I requested a behavioral assessment and review of my son's behavioral plan by a BCBA. My son has PICA and has started showing aggressive and OCD behaviors, so I don't think my request was unwarranted. The response I received from the Director of Special Ed services AND the two District " Ph.D's " present was literally " What's a BCBA? " My explanation was insufficient and I was requested to provide info regarding " qualifications " and " certification " of a BCBA. So, my question to all of you is where I can find the most succinct information regarding this. I would really appreciate if anyone can refer me to the appropriate web site or journals that I can use to substantiate my request. I cannot believe that these people do not know what I was talking about and would really like to dump a truck load of information right on top of them. They asked for it and I would Love to give it to them! So any help or suggestions would really be appreciated !!!! Thanks! Trish

Guest guest
Here are the guidelines developed by the Autism Special Interest Group of the Association of Behavior Analysts. http://www.abainternational.org/sub/membersvcs/sig/contactinfo/Autism.asp You can also get an excellent publication by COSAC called " Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism " by Buchanan and Weiss. Their website is www.njcosac.org . [ ] BCBA Qualifications Hello, all. I am the mother of a 5 year old in a self contained Kindergarten class in District.
