Dear Francine,

I hope you're feeling better. Not to worry about a bit of a delay.

Of course I will help. I think that just from what you've said, it

would be best to focus on the Lyme boards to engage others to get

involved. If you start with a plan that keeps it as simple as

posssible, you won't suddenly have too much to do. Perhaps something

like an initial proposal, which I will copy and get to everyone I

know, and on all the boards I am on would be a good way to start. I

think that if you keep it with the lyme groups for now, you could

later investigate other venues. It can get going much more quickly

with much less complication for you. You will have plenty to do

before even thinking of doing an ebay thing. I say this knowing how

easily things suddenly take off, and how much time and energy this

can take.

I know this part can be a little difficult, but if you can decide how

you want it to happen, you can put it up as one full idea. Maybe

some kind of title that catches attention, and then your idea in a

full explanation. If you want, I can help you with putting it

together, but I think you would have to be the one to decide which

catalog to work from. This way other can give you feedback, and

those that want to either particpate by selling or buying could have

at least some clear idea of what you would like to see happen.

If this message isn't clear enough, don't worry. Just let me know.

Sometimes when writing, it can be a bit more difficult to

communicate, but don't get discouraged. I will help you, and do what

I can to get other involved, so now it just needs to be a little more

clear to present to others who are on this board, and on other

boards, in my address book, etc. Let me know.

Sincerely,

Regina

I know that thru the Arthritis Foundation you can donate money and request

that it go to JRA, or you can speak with your child's rheumatologist about

where to send it.

There is also now (unfortunately) another way to help children with JRA. A

new foundation, The Terance Lynch Foundation, has recently been established.

Monies raised will be used to help children with rheumatic diseases whose

families cannot afford care and/or medications. Mr. Lynch was one of the

victims of the Pentagon bombing. He worked hard to raise awareness of

juvenile arthritis, and spent much time working to get the new pediatric

rheumatology Clinic at NIH. If anyone would like the address of this

foundation please let me know and I will post it here.

I did not know Mr Lynch, only of him as our children have the same

rheumatologist. I'm sure that those wanting more info can request it from

the foundation.

Thank you Liz, for sharing this. When you have a chance, please do post

the website or address or any other information you may have about this

newly formed Foundation. I'm very touched to hear this story about Mr.

Lynch and am glad that his cause, spreading the awareness of JRA, will

be furthered even after his death.

As a side note, I was at a friend's house this afternoon when she turned

on the Oprah Winfrey show. They were interviewing two men who helped a

woman named , who was in a wheelchair, escape from her office on the

80th floor of the World Trade center. It turns out that has had

Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was three years old. This story

is also mentioned in the latest People magazine.

Dear Pat,

I'm like you as I don't see any fundraisers around for jra. I know the

other diseases are definetly just as important--but it would be nice to

see something out there for our kids too.

Hi Pat and everyone, I too notice the lack of fund raisers

concerning arthritis, especially JRA, but then it just isn't a high

enough profile decease for the media to take notice. That is until some

child of a celebrity is diagnosed, then you'll see it in the media, BIG

TIME!

So for anyone who does want to make a donation to JRA, send to the

Arthritis Foundation/for the research of JRA.

Pat

here in atlanta they do fundraisers i was at several last year but have not

heard of many this year

i got a letter of a event but i didnt go becasue it was something about wine

and i dont drink so i didnt go maybe i should have but my opinion is

alcohol shouldnt be around where kids are and if its a event for kids the

adults should respect that

if not for theirself but for the role model of these kids

we do need to get it going for the kids as they are the ones who are living

with it

i am willing to help

My heart goes out to that womans family and Mr. Lynchs family...but to me it

is ashame that this shameless disaster and loss of lives had to happen for

someone to mention juvenile rheumatoid arthritis! When it has been around

for years and years to where you have adults who surpassed jra to ra...i

mean i am sorry for those lives that were lost but i emailed the Oprah show

and never heard a reply..i guess to them it was worth national attention

until this happened and it was brought up!!!!!!!! my opinion!

Hi Georgina. The foundation is:

Terence M Lynch Foundation

c/o Ted Lynch Inc

6 Short St

The Plains, Ohio 45780

Other than knowing that monies are to help kids whose families cannot afford

rheumatology care and/or meds I don't know anything about the foundation.

The rheumatologist is the one who told me it had been formed, though. For

anyone wanting more info, I suggest a note to the foundation requesting

info.

Hi ,

I actually wondered if maybe Oprah mentioned 's living with

arthritis since she was three years old as a result of all the letters

she received from people like us?

I know what you mean, though.

Hi Robbin,

Yup. It does make you think. Here, the schools are all on one or two

levels. We have county ordinances that forbid any buildings over (I

think) 6 stories tall. Josh didn't want to use an elevator pass to get

up to the second level at school, even when he hurt his foot last year.

He preferred to walk up the steps very slowly, with everybody else. It

was good to know there was an available option, though.

Tell we say hello :)

Take care,

Georgina

Hi All,

My wife and I are planning to send our son to a private school out of

district while trying to convince our school district to pay. Our

parents have agreed to help us make this work, but we want to do some

fundraising, possibly a benefit of some kind.

We'd like donations to be tax deductible, does anyone know about

accepting donations for schooling? If anyone could point me in the

direction of getting more info on the topic I'd appreciate it. thanks,

Jim...

I have a foster son that I am in the process of doing the same thing

for...

I am meeting with a lawyer to set up an educational trust to fund raise

into, as I don't want the Medicaid/SSI/CAP benefits that he is currently

eligible for to be affected, I don't want it to affect my taxes, and I

don't want folks who donate to think I'm fundraising for my Caribbean

vacation. The school couldn't accept and manage the funds because it

would threaten their non-profit status.

I don't have all the answers but this is what I know so far.

Good luck!!!
