Kinzer (812-855-0514 or jkinzer@...) Use it or put it away forever—What would you do? In collaboration with Theatre South, The Token, an original musical with a creative team and cast from town, gown, and both high schools, will be performed in Carmichael Hall at Bloomington High School South at 7 pm September 17th, 23rd and 24th, and at 2 pm on September 18th. Tickets are available at the Sunrise Box Office at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre and at the door before any performance. The Token is a benefit production. Proceeds will support students with autism in the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC), by allowing for the purchase of appropriate resources (at the discretion of the superintendent or his designees), as well as providing additional funding for Theatre South. The Token tells the story of Marsh Harrington, who is approaching a dramatic moment in his life. Every member of the Harrington family receives a special gift on their 13th birthday - a “token” that has magical powers. But these powers come with consequences, responsibilities, and possible danger. Some members of the family have rejected their tokens, locking them in a bank vault to protect themselves from risk. Others have embraced their tokens and the risk that accompanies them. The Token takes the audience on a journey with Marsh as he confronts members of his family, their closets full of skeletons, and the tumultuous moment in his own life when he must decide for himself. What will happen to Marsh if he uses his token? Will he suffer the same fate as his Aunt , who died after using her token? Or will he discover something truly special on his journey? With music by Bloomington High School South student Stinson and book and lyrics by his mother, Stinson, The Token brings together a creative team that includes director Kinzer (.22 Caliber Mouth, Theodora: an unauthorized biography at the Bloomington Playwrights Project) and music director Gehrenbeck (doctoral student in choral conducting at the IU School of Music). The cast comes from the rolls of Bloomington High School South, Bloomington High School North, Indiana University, and the Bloomington community. One young performer commutes from sville to rehearse and perform.
