Guest guest
Thanks for this Margee. I want to talk to the doctor about getting those special socks for mom's feet. Dad got a pair for his diabetes which he refused to wear and said he wouldn't give you 25 cents for after I dragged him and me all over the place to get them for him. You mention socks without toes?........I better find out more about these sock things so that I don't look like a complete ass in front of the doctor. Guest guest
Courage, Dad didn't use socks for compression, he used wraps. Socks that give enough compression to really help are nearly impossible to get on and darned uncomfortable. I don't blame your Dad for refusing to wear them. My Dad used short stretch bandages--something like the sports bandages, but specialized. We had to get a pharmacy to order them since most places don't stock them. They can be wrapped tight enough to help circulation without being too tight. The typical sports bandage can easily be put on too tight and end up doing more harm than good. There is also a special medical equipment called a Farrow Wrap that can only be bought from one medical supply place (mail order). Dad wouldn't wear them, though. They were too uncomfortable at the ankle. The wound specialist told us that typical internal medicine doctors aren't trained in dealing with chronic cirulation problems. He's the one who told us about the wraps.
