Okay I know this will start an avalanche.....What is Kefir? From

what I gather; you take some milk -drop in some " kefir grains "

(insert mystical music) then in a day or so, depending on

climate...you have something that you drink.?

Elaborate on the what and why?

Thanks,

Tricia

Tricia,

Ah, you seek the ancient mystical knowledge of kefir. Don't we all. We all talk about it, yes. And that special mystical music that causes the kefir grains to do their sacred mysterious dance that turns humble milk into glorious supreme kefir, that no woman or man has yet to fathom. Please, if by perchance you happen upon the secret ways and find success, please, do share. We will all be most grateful.

Tonio

No problem Tricia.

Go to this site to learn all about kefir:

http://users.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html

Basically, it is a wonderful probiotic beverage, stronger than yogurt in it's

beneficial

qualities, that you make from spongy bacterial cultures called " grains. "

Discovered among

the Muslim tribespeople of the Northern Caucasus Mountains in Russia over a

century ago

and really has unknown origins. Many legends surround it. Very interesting

reading at

Dominic's site.

Yes, you put the grains in milk, and 24 to 48 hours, you strain out the grains

and you

drink the resulting beverage. You put the grains back in milk and repeat the

process.

Very easy. You might compare it to plain yogurt or buttermilk in taste. Some

like it

sweetened, some like it tart.
