Guest guest
I'm curious about the res yeast rice. I read something that said it actually contains statins, at I read something about this too. From what I understand it does contain statins and if you take it you still need to take CoQ10. I bought some a while back but don't fancy trying them afterm y experience with statins! I read something that said it actually contains statins, at http://www.wholehealthmd.com/print/view/1,1560,AR_29,00.html Ok, the article is from 2000 and apparently it's being sold again, but: " Red yeast extract contains a number of cholesterol-lowering compounds known as statins, among them lovastatin, " So if statins are bad for us, why is red yeast good for us? Why isn't it just as bad as taking statins? I just got off that latest trial of zocor, after the Vytorin. Both were making me feel dizzy and sick. So I'm back on strictly the policosanol and fish oil and have added 100mg/day of COQ10 and folic acid with B6 and B12. I'm actually feeling BETTER now, physically from adding these, which is NICE! I've also added back the 500mg of Slo Niacin per day and am not having flushing problems now, but it got me very sick when I tried the Vytorin with it so I had to quit taking it with that and the zocor. But if I add red yeast now, won't it react all over again like that, with the niacin, if it has those statins in it? And aren't they just as bad for me that way as in the plain old zocor? I really need to know about that before I'd try red yeast, after that nasty reaction with the niacin. Yours In Liberty, - Colorado, U.S.A. Guest guest
Red rice yeast is a natural form of statin. It will cause the same effects as statins. My doctor told me if I cannot take statins (which I cannot) not to take red rice yeast. Marketing is going to kill us all! Guest guest
Hello! Yes, I realize Red yeast rice is a 'natural" statin. I was just curious as to this new pill as it has everything contained in it that i have researched to be excellent for high cholesterol I am all for taking one pill instead of several...which is what I am doing now with the coQ10 and Panethine..... I have personally tried the yeast and also the policosanol. Both gave me some reaction, but I am thinking in this new pill..maybe it contains smaller amounts, and with the combo would work well. So anyway, sine my cholesterol is like OVER 300 I just wanted to know if anyone has used or seen this particular pill? And...what your experience has been. Thanks. Jill ps if poli works for you alone, then super:-) It gave me sinus infections.......just like the red yeast.......but I am game to try again. I have another cardio visit coming up to check my numbers, LOL This is why I am curious as to HOW MUCH of the supplements are contained in this product Cholesterice. Guest guest
In Cholesterice there is, per serving of 2 capsules: Red Yeast Rice 600mg Plant Sterols 100mg CoQ10 30mg Ploicosnol (Spelling) 10mg Red Yeast Rice is no different to prescription statins in the way it affects our body and also possible side effects. It works on the liver in the same way and with it comes a list of similar side effects to look out for. In Cholesterice, CoQ10 at 30mg is far too low, I think. 100mg is more the dose that we need to cover ourselves if we use statins. I looked for studies done for Cholesterice and could'nt find any, and I don't know anyone who has taken it. But going on what we know so far about cholesterol levels and inflammation, I would'nt buy it. Maybe some one who could tolerate statins would be OK with it, but they would need to take extra CoQ10 to be on the safe side, and also take suppliments to help with inflammation which seems to be individual. Guest guest
I have heard that one thing Red Yeast Rice doesn't do is increase Liver Emzyne levels which is an advantage that it has over other statins. -- Steve - dudescholar2@... Guest guest
I'd sure like to try some samples of it for a week and see if the effects are the same I would'nt, because I'll never take any sort of statin again. It's just not worth it, especially if they have made you ill. It would be nice though to have one pill that had it all:)

Guest guest
melissa wrote: I was just wondering if the red yeast rice might have it in a more tolerable form. Hi , Red Yeast Rice is Red Yeast Rice no matter how it is packaged. Re: Cholesterice Ingredients: Two capsules provide - 600mg of Red Yeast Rice - 600mg Plant Sterols - 100mg Pantethine - 30mg CoQ10 - 1mg Policosanol When adding supplements it's best to add one at a time. If you experience side effects it's easier to determine the culprit. One 600 mg capsule of RYR is roughly equal to Mevacor 2 mg. The lowest prescription strength of Mevacor is 10 mg. More on RYR from Dr Graveline... http://www.spacedoc.net/red_yeast_rice.htm Pantethine is great stuff! B5 - (Pantethine - Co-Enzyme B5) Pantethine is useful for: Increasing HDL, thus creating a more favorable Chol/HDL ratio which is the atherogenic index of your body. Reducing cardiovascular risk by inhibiting platelet clumping & the production of the inflammation producing chemical, thromboxane A2. Source: PDR Health http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/pan_0195.shtml And as someone else mentioned, 30 mg of CoQ10 is way too low. Guest guest
I was just wondering if the red yeast rice might have it in a more tolerable form. Sometimes natural things work for the body when their chemical counterparts don't. If you do decide to try it, , don't forget to take a min. of 100mg of CoQ10. I have some Red Yeast Rice and keep looking at the bottle, but have'nt plucked up the courage to try it so far. I think I will do more research on it first. Guest guest
, there was another good pill I found at a Rite-Aid drug store....it was called Advocate. It also contained a cholesterol tester....one to take before starting and one to take after a month on the product. This had no yeast rice in it, but had alot of the other stuff plus policosanol. I found it did work for me quite well, but it was pricey ..not too bad, but I did not have to keep testing my blood and could not find it w/o the tester, which I am sure upped the price. Anyway....I also had some sinus goings-on with the policosanol......so after a time, quit it. I am thinking of going back on it tho...My hubby and i have been on nothing except supplements for quite awhile, and I know when our doc visits come up we will be hounded again to take drugs...and we just aren't. I hate these confrontations tho. Really dread going. My hubby had a HA and bypass so naturally at this stage, I am leery of not doing anything. After this kind of wake-up call it is hard...... Guest guest
Yes , I chalked the poli and the rice yeast up to my sinus infections. It happened with both, and I stopped and tried again later....and it came back. It won't keep me from trying again tho....but yes, I was pretty sure it was the supplements.
