hi jenny, what a great story! I remember one of the DAN's telling me to always

give me and my son a rice cake with peanut butter on it last night before

sleeping so we dont wake up in the night looking for protein as our blood sugar

drops and we awake, when you first said biting I thought gastro issues but now I

think its thyroid sugar issues, and if she could eat the nuts b4 going to sleep

she might not wake up in the middle of the night! Thanks so much for sharing,

isobel ps. another thing i give my son is a protein dink gf/cf vanilla shake

last thing at night and first thing in the morning to combat sugar levels

Dear Isobel,

I will definately try the nuts before bed tonight. Do you think a carob drink

with raw milk would be helpful? - similar to the protein shake?

Thank you.

Oh absolutely,I have been wanting to write something on this for ages. It occurred to me the other day when I was visiting a thyroid specialist that the children should be tried on thyroxine. I think Sandy had some experience and success with thisSince I started thyroxine 5 weeks ago my frozen shoulder pain has all but disappeared and my foot cramping seems to be abating. The thyroid specialist told me that typical of thyroid issues is seeing things out the side of the eyes (sideways glancing??) and audio and visual hallucinations. Also reading disturbances ie seeing bright glare when reading and seeing words move to side of page and dropping off (sounds like a possible cause for dyslexia).Subject: Success - hooray! To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Monday, 29 August, 2011, 10:30

Dear All,

Just wanted to post about this because it is so simple and something I never thought of. I thought it might help someone else.

, my quite severely Autistic daughter has woken almost every night for the last can't rememeber how many years at between 3 and 4pm. She starts singing at first quite quietly, but it then gets louder and louder and she starts hitting herself on the head and biting her wrists.

When my husband or I go in to help she attacks us - nipping and biting. She also has cramps in her feet. This behaviour is out of character and doesn't happen during the day.

We have thought it might be night terrors, liver detox kicking in, mild seizures - all sorts of things; but recently I have been looking at hypothyroidism and alot of things have been clicking into place.

One of the websites mentioned these children often wake around 3-5pm due to low blood sugar. It suggested nuts especially brazil nuts as a good snack although i suspect a protein/carb combination would work equally well.

When woke last night, and was about to attack us, I presented her with a small handful of nuts, which she controlled herself and ate. She calmed down within about 20 seconds and sung herself gently off to sleep. Wonderful!

Apologies for the length of my post and if i am telling you something you already know, but for anyone who hadn't thought of this it worked like a charm where supplements, homeopathy and massage have failed.

I recently posted whether anyone could recommend a good thyroid glandular. I have not had any replies yet. If anyone can help please let me know as we are taking to the doctors for the test next week and I want to be as knowledgable as possible. I know what our doctors are like!

Many thanks,

Best wishes,

This is great news . I'm not sure of your daughter's other symptoms, but

she may also be having struggling with magnesium deficiency (foot cramps). It

may also be important to support the adrenals, if you're not already. I've

never used a thyroid glandular, but I know Allergy Research has a lot of

glandulars and I tend to like their products.

Sleep :-)!! Such a great gift.

Dear Anita,

Thank you. does take magnesium, a multi and Adrenal Cortex, but I am

really excited about what I have found out about hypothyroidism. It describes

perfectly and also answers afew questions about me.

I understand that borderline can be passed onto a child at birth and that

following vaccinations depletion in vitamin A can cause it to become more

severe. This makes a lot of sense. My husband and I have always commented that

is really not like any other Autistic child we have ever known and this

really answers a lot of questions.

Thank you for the info on Allergy Research.

Best wishes,

that is great I do thyroxine for years but cannot report the same success I think is due to my t3 because you only have t4 in thyroxine and it is expected for your body to do the rest but if such is not the case then you never feel completely right despite your tsh be within the normal range

150 mcg and still have a shoulder pain that does not lets lift my baby daughter

I tried T3 as well as thyroxine for quite a while and sadly felt no better. It

was stopped and I felt no different - and I had really hoped T3 would make a

difference. I have never tried Armour, though. I'm on 150ucg of thyroxine. (And

feel terrible.)

that is very disheartening, I was hoping that would make a difference in my case....

I was told that you cannot get Armour anymore as I ask my pharmacist if he could get it if I got a prescription from the doctor ......well that or he probably would not know here to go to get even if I had a prescription ....

Did you made a boood sample to assess your free t3 ? or they just prescribe it ....

Two of us have had difficulty regulating thyroid after Armour reformulated in

late 2006. Currently, we take iodine[lugol's 5% -2-3gtts/day] as well as

selenium, zinc. One also takes tyrosine - one does not tolerate it. All taken

along w the thyroid med. It has helped a lot!

Thank you for all your comments re thyroid. I am learning alot today. I have

I asked the doctor to see the endocrinologist but she refused to refer me point blank....but may I ask what were your symptoms that lead you to be prescribed t3? because I go to the doctors and I complain of brain fog, joint pain especially shoulder and upper arm, my hair falls to the point of driving my husband mad, always tired no energy what so ever, insomnia, depression, mood swings , and this seems to confuse the doctor as they say it is a mix of hypo and hyper symptoms as consequence the doctors tends to find other reasons for my symptoms like my pregnancy or arthritis etc ....but this is what I feel and been feeling for years since my teens in fact , of course all this gets worse when I am under stress, I cannot cope with stress at all, under stress I barely can keep my eyes open .....

Dear ,

Congratulations..I raised my 'blood sugar' question to my neurologist regarding

with my son's seizures.Because I was suspicious about the time when he was

having seizures. He suggested give him a cake before going to bed.It wasn't a

good idea but something sweet , that's the idea isn't it..Thanks for reminding

nuts though he shows allergy many of them.perhaps I should try the drink which

Isobel mentioned it.

I told my GP there had been some studies saying sometimes T3 was needed as well

as T4 and although on thyroxine I still didn't feel well - could I therefore try

T4 for a while to see if it helped and he said yes.
