Guest guest
Sara, GREAT review, and it goes without saying how much I enjoy hearing what gadgets you get! For the newer folks - Sara is our top Bargain Hunter. I expect to see her on an episode of Extreme Couponing one day. Today was a light cardio day for me. In the morning I went for a half hour walk with Kathy and the two older dogs. I also did 20 minutes of walk/jog treadmill intervals in the afternoon. Back to the dog walk - I've always been reluctant to listen to music when I walk on the trail, as I'm paranoid and like to be aware of my surroundings, heh. So I've never, ever listened to music while walking the dogs. I have when biking, but not on foot. Anyway, I figured if I could listen to music in one ear, that might work okay, but wasn't too keen on the idea of listening to lop-sided music with one ear bud. I did some reading, tried a mono ear bud from Radio Shack (which sounded awful), and then started reading about wireless bluetooth headphones (my ipod has bluetooth). Then I learned that there are certain bluetooth phone mics that can also function as a single ear bud. I found a deal on ebay on a (new) Jabra Extreme headset and it worked super great! It sounded very good, has external volume control, and I could hear everything just fine on the trail - from the birds and critters to the gravel crunching. :-D Yay! Turns out it also works with my non-smart phone for hands free talking, but I'm so rarely on the phone that I probably won't use it much for that. But good to know, I guess. Steady Strides, the audio from Project You (cheap on amazon http://amzn.to/mjGw2U) contains two 30 minute walks, Power Walk and Intervals. According to my music software, Power Walk is about 120 bpm and Intervals is about 132bpm, but I'm pretty sure that's an average so I'm not sure how accurate that is. Definitely felt -ish though, so maybe that's close. Power Walk seemed to be pretty steady state, and Kathy walks you through a warm up and cool down as well - and mentions that you can use the cool down as a transistion if you want to keep walking with next workout. That was a nice touch, I thought. Looking forward to trying Intervals, too! I really liked having Kathy in the background for the dog walk! Even though I see the dog walk as bonus activity for me (it's more for the dogs) I think it kept my pace a little better, and I enjoyed all of her posture reminders, as well as her other general wellness tips. The music had a nice beat, and fit the workout well. 'Course, with two dogs along I didn't keep to the workout 100% (what with pitstops and all) but we did pretty well. I also like to read on my ipod when I walk the younger dog by himself, but that's more of a stroll. Kathy talks about the difference between strolling (which is good too, she says) and actively trying to increase your fitness with your walking and I liked her message. Thumbs (and paws) up from us, Sara
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks!! I really liked listening to Kathy today, and may have to start looking for audios to use when I run out of Kathy, heh. I'm sure there will be lots 'o gadget talk in the future...I hopeless. ;-) HA! Extreme Couponing! What ticks me off about that show is that their " big secret " is DOUBLE coupons. Stores around here do NOT do that, so there goes my chances, lol. Every once in a great while, some stores will have double coupon day, but it's *very* limited, like 5 per order or something - no buying 59 bags of candy (WTH???), and no getting money back if the coupon is more than the item. I'd like some of those deals on the shampoo and soap and stuff - but all that junk food they buy, no thanks! hee Besides, I've never seen coupons for treadmills or stair steppers, lol. I'll have to stick with craigslist, I guess. Hugs, Sara > > > > > > > Today was a light cardio day for me. In the morning I went for a half hour > > walk with Kathy and the two older dogs. Guest guest
I've never seen the show, just heard about it. Do you not have a Safeway? They have double coupons but to shop there regularly is a bad idea because it's very expensive, you really need to look for the lost liter sales.. Still, I'm grateful to have one 2 blocks away since I don't own a car and I figure my occasional shopping there is cheaper than buying gas! I'm lucky my friends and folks take me to Winco, where us poor people shop! Wish I could afford to buy all organic like I did when I was in my apartment. Hi , Thanks!! Guest guest
I've done both the Power walk and interval walk on this cd but it's been a while. I'm planning to do it on the day in the schedule when it's called for, it will be a nice change from my other walking workouts. Great job Sara! Guest guest
Hi Jen! Thanks! Looking forward to hearing your take on the workouts, I really enjoyed them. I might do Project You Upper Body next week, too, since it reminds me a lot of the Core Secrets workouts I'm doing and I need a different upper body workout for next week. And to answer your other question, I'm 5'8 " tall. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn! Thanks! Yes, her posture reminders are great! I also had fun with the part where she tells you walk in a line, one foot in front of the other using your hips! Good thing my trails is usually empty, lol. I'm looking forward to trying those other Kathy workouts that I traded with you for, too. ;-) Hugs to Chinook, Sara > > hi sara! ive gotten lots of use and enjoyment with these audios > in the past. > i havent used them in a very long time (have gone on to > listening to other things) but i often still hear kathy's voice > telling me about posture and proper form while walking! > :*carolyn. >
