Guest guest
Jen, Excuse me for butting in-but you can draw up your insulin if you use a count-a-dose. This little machine lets you use a BD brand 1/2 cc insulin syringe and it comes with a tape, which has very good verbal directions. The count-a-dose is availabe through Maxi Aids and cost about $48.00. Re: Introduction Hi , I learned about carb counting a few years ago, but for whatever reason never really got started doing it. Now, though, I am wanting better control so am going to look into that again. Is it hard to do when you can't see labels on packages or food on your plate? I do not use an insulin pump. Unfortunately, they are not covered here in Canada, so if I wanted to use one I'd have to pay the full price plus the price of any supplies for it on my own. I can't afford that right now, with tuition as high as it is. <grin> Your goal for your a1c's blew me away!! At lowest, my a1c has been around 7.0 or so, and at the moment it's higher than that and leaves something to be desired! This is why I am wanting to start trying to get my a1c's lower now before it gets worse. Right now I'm using the insulin pens, I'm not sure which brand (I think Lilly), but I'm wondering if there's another way of drawing insulin, since the pens don't allow you to mix insulins, so when I take Humalog and N in the morning that means 2 shots instead of one. Guest guest
yup, I gotta amen amen this product. I've used the same count a dose for about 4 years now and independently make my own shots 3 a day. It works only with the long needles, not the very short needles though. I'm not certain if that is the proper terms for the various needles but hope you understand what I am explaining. Guest guest
there are two sizes of the count-a-dose. both the one c.c and the half c.c. the half would fit a fifty unit surynge. and the other one a hundred unit surynge. I think thay both are still made. friends wayne Re: Introduction > > > > Hi , > > > > I learned about carb counting a few years ago, but for whatever > > reason never really got started doing it. Guest guest
I have to agree about the Count-a-dose, I've used it since '95 now and it works really well. Guest guest
Wayne, I believe that the 1 cc count-a-dose is not being made. They stopped making it several years ago and I have not heard that they started it up again.
