Iron levels low - what to do?

Hi

We've just had N's blood results back and was wondering what others have

used for low iron and also can anyone explain the significance of low

neutrophils please.

Iron 4.9 - Low (ref range 9 -30)

Ferritin 36 - low end of normal (ref range 15 - 400)

Neutrophil 1.2 - Low (ref range 1.7 - 7.5)

I know there was a recent thread on Lactoferrin, would this be a

suitable supplement to try to boost iron and where to get this from?

Norman's bowels are not good at all and he goes several days without

opening bowels and I feel iron supplementing might worsen this.

thanks for your help.

Dear Have you spoken to recently. I think that she may be able to make more sense of this.. I am beginning to understand the problems poor venus return has on blood flow into the brain, and I wonder if the reduction in iron etc could be linked with this.

It may be helpful to send her an e mail. as she is very busy at the Centre with the school holidays at the moment.Best Wishes

Tracey

First, the neutrophils. This would be what I would consider the most important result. There is a product called thymic protein A by a company called proboost. It can increase white blood cells (neutrophils are one kind) and improve the immune system in general. I have also found that Epicor has great research behind it, and can, among other htings, increase NK cells, which would probably be very good, as my understanding they, like neutrophils, work without needing any programming from the immune system.

For iron, I believe it is the ferritin results you want to pay attention to, but his are still low. Cutler maintains that toxic kids with high levels of OS will keep low iron for just that reason. My ds also had very low iron. I didn't use the kinds normally recommended, which is the non-heme kind, but instead tried to get animal iron (which is the heme kind) in him--drippings from a roast, stuff like that. If Norm will swallow pills, the Weston A Price people recommended freezing raw organic liver and then taking it as pills (you need to freeze for a certain amount of time to ensure that what you're eating is safe). There is also a supplement I did try a couple years back that has the right form of iron that our body needs, which is the heme iron, but the name escapes me entirely now. Perhaps google heme iron and see what you can find available in the UK? Getting it through food would be better though IMO.

I'm not sure if you were able to hear Dr Culp speak at the conference. One of the most important things (IMO) that he makes clear is that these reference ranges don't mean 'normal, healthy, fine and dandy'. So, people like our kids who are at the low end of things like neutrophils really do require some sort of attention that most md's would not give--I suspect this is the case here?

There are also some more immune system supps listed in the viral file in the files section here that might be of help to you.

The below link gives some ideas from Andy regards neutrophils,

it is also in the files section at A-M.

Lactoferrin has brought my ds bloodcount up. I did this as part of yasko recomendation. Interesting as dw was also pos for kryptopyroles which also is connected with heme .

Started with a sprinkle and worked up to one 300mg cap. Ds is 3 yrs old. Checked

blood count again after 6 weeks and gone from 11.2 to 12.9.
