In 1996 I thought I was having a cold/flu but it just wouldn't go away...After a month I couldn't even get my breath so went to the emergency room....Was hospitalized and Blood sugars were in the 500's....Also diagnosed with COPD....Dieted and used shots but finally was put on Prandin.....and reduced BS to 7.2....Kept working for two more years until Dr. refused to sign papers to go back to work after an episode with lungs....I just kept getting more fatigued each day and often could barely get up out of bed and walk across the room..Had so much pain all the time.....I finally hemmoraged and they found cancer in my kidney...They removed it and said it was intact and I was cancer free, but the pain remained. Dr. said it would take a few months, then he said a year, then said maybe a year or two...My cholestrol was high so they put me on Zocor...I began to be forgetful, confused, tingling and going to sleep in my hands and feet...Horrific pain in all my muscles and joints....Finally Dr. said he'd change my med from Zocor to Pravachol....Then changed it to Lipitor...Tested my heart for the weird chest pains I was having....A tightness would be in my chest and then a pain that would just take the breath away and squeeze me til I thought I was going to die...The pain would surge up my neck and down through my right arm.....Found a murmur I've always had and a problem with a valve but nothing to worry about they said...Couldn't explain why I was having these attacks.....Finally my diabetic Dr. put me on Zetia ...I stopped having these chest pain attacks but still had all the other symptoms.....So stiff after sitting/laying It would take me a long time to get up and start walking...Feet and legs were discolored..Actually there's so many symptoms I can't even sit and remember and name them all....But when others post I think "YES" I have that too.....Changed to a home town Dr. All the others were specialists at the University....He put me on Enalapril and Niaspan.....I also take Diltazem, asprin, Theophylline, Quuinine Sul for the cramps in my hands, legs, and arms.....I also take Prandin, Lisinophril and the Zetia.....Shortly after starting the Niaspan I had a spell of horrible flushing and hot flash....Broke out in a rash that took over 3 weeks to get rid of with heavy doses of predisone....I started the coQ10 shortly after joining this group but I didn't see much if any relief......I also take albuterol, adavair, and combivent.....Sometimes I think I'll just stop all of them and let nature take it's course....I'm 62 and been Medically disabled 6 years...I see some of you have completely stopped medications and seem to be doing ok.....Sometimes I think that they just haven't found the cancer that may have as I doctored for two years before they found the first cancer and said the tumor was as big as a small football...I had often made the remark to my husband that I felt like I was pregant. I could feel a bulge that seemed to move up under my rib and cause pain and aching like when a baby moves inside of you.....My feet look like they have had springed ankles now and I've lost a lot of the feeling in them....I know diabetic causes this also.....Anyhow this is my life.....What would any of you do? My cholestrol did go down when I started on the Zetia......I'm wondering if medicines causes a rash or other negative symptoms are they really helping? Funny that Drs. will still tell you take drugs that give adverse symptoms when they insist on you not eating something or not doing something when it effects your health....And how horrible to have to appeal on the internet to others as to what you need to do to get better....I welcome any suggestions or thoughts

I hope everyone thinks the same thing you do....Sometimes I think I couldn't feel any worse so I might as well quit them all...Yes...I think so many drugs aren't good and might bring on the problems too....But the Dr. knows I take all of these and seems to think that they don't interfer or react to each other...When I told him I thought the lipitor caused most of my problems he answered " Do you know how many people have died because of asprins? So much good comes of Lipitor and very few react that it's better to help the majority. Evidently he hasn't had many complaints or he just don't listen....

I went by my middle name "Deane" for many years and then there was a guy that his name was Dean and people got confused...So I started using Dorla...Not many Dorla's in the world .....My name is Dorla and people began kid me and call me Dorla Dooo....So I just call myself Dooo...I used those Aascii characters to make my signature.. My yahoo is dooodad for me and my husband.....Dooo & DAD ....lol I made it so it has glasses because I've worn glasses ever since I was 2 years old.....And that's another symptom...Dr. says my caratic's are getting worse and I've also lost a lot of teeth...Just this past year three have broken off while I was eating...And the funny thing is I don't have toothaches...I figured I'd be in misery until I could get to a dentist but nothing came of it so I've never went....BUT it's getting to the point that I'm going to have to have dentures if I'm going to continue eating food other than soft kinds.....I think my whole body is worn out......even my mind....lol

Re: I'm wondering

You sure seem to be taking alot of stuff that is not making you well...none of us are doctors here but my advice is to get off as many as you can...I have been off Lipitor now for 19 months...I had alot of the symptoms you described...fatigue,tingling and going to sleep in my arms and legs...I really thought I would be in a wheel chair and most are gone now...I still have stiffness in legs and hands and my upper arms can hurt "wicked" and I can't wait to get in bed at night I am so tired but I am so much better than what I was...I do live on Tylennol some days and some days I need nothing...its weird....Have a "talk" with your doctor and make sure he is listening to you and tell him exactly how you are feeling...just like you told us...be firm and make him listen to your concerns...62 is no age to give up...Can you explain your signature to us? Its quite clever...is your name Dooo?JanThe Lemars wrote:

You've been through it all, I'm sorry ! I think a lot of our drugs cause other illnesses , but yet we need some of them . All I can suggest is that you research all your drugs ,and see if the side effects match the symtoms , and do the drug check to see if any drugs are not compatible with the others .I would insist on a sonogram or MRI to look. at that bulge under the rib cage !your Dr did to you what mine did to me , kept changing the statins , when they are all basically the same ,and in the meantime, the damage was done ! I wish you luck on finding out what's going on !

Very interesting conversation here.

Hmmmm

Well, Dooo, I am off for an echogram or ultrasound....whatever it is, of my gall bladder/ and I hope everything else in the neighborhood.

I found your story interesting.

About 3 years ago, my GP was listening to my heart and said I hear your murmer. I said MY MURMER!? I had never in my 50 some years heard I had a murmur. She sent me to cardiologist.......they did an echocardiogram......then they said I had a valve not right, plus my heart was enlarged. I ended up going fro 2 more of those.......and the last one she said my heart seemed to be "shrinking " back. She also blamed the valve thing on her "super sensitive equipment". So I guess it was alot of worry for nothing.(but it is always in the back of my mind now)

In the meantime I have great pain in my flank area....go to the GP who gets me a sonogram of my kidneys......checking for stones. I KNEW I had no stones......I was worried something else was wrong.......naturally the test came back fine. I got a new mattress, and the flank pain got somewhat better......but now, I have bloated stomach....and like you say, I feel pregnant.........like about 10 months worth! I still have slight pain in my flank area.....I've lost about 30 pounds because I cut out sugar and flour and potatoes.....but lately I have been doing some sugar....

my weight has maintained......altho I gained about 7 pounds......I am sure it was fluid,....when I was so swelled up.

I was so frustrated......

Went to my chiropractor and bought some of his probiotics, and enzymes..and Metamucil..and also a liver cleanser. I am better on them. In the meantime I have another echo or ultra scheduled in a little while to further examine my gall bladder/pancreas, etc.

Sometimes I just feel this is all in my head...and I am a hypochondriac. Other times I feel I must have cancer or something.....otherwise why would i feel so uncomfortable all the time in my middle?

I was reading about ZOCOR the other day...a magazine article.....and under "other side effects" it stated, ....breast enlargement, impotency, and lack of desire. It kinda cracked me up because right away I am thinking...well........now they can sell the viagra and all the other passion enhancers.....so I can sure see why you get one pill to counter another pill.

You are on alot of meds........I am no doctor.......but sure wish I was.

It goes against my grain to take meds.......unless they are life saving I guess....

All I am on is synthroid.....and have been since I was 24. I was to inexperienced and ignorant to question the docs back then.......

I know I will incur my cardiologists wrath because I stopped lipitor.....

and I am scheduled for yet another echo to see how my heart is doing..this one is an echo- stress one. I postponed it to Novemeber as I just don't want to deal with it.

Well, enough complaining for now......I am off for the test on my gall bladder/ and whatever else they do.

Better feeling days to all of you.,

Jill

Re: I'm wondering

I'm in SouthEast Iowa....Supposedly the specialists at The University of Iowa are closest to the best in this state but they took two years to find the cancer I had and probably wouldn't have found it then if I hadn't been hemmoraging...And to top it all off, and this is unbeliveable.....They put a Catherer in and I was plugging the catheter with blood clots and filling the bag with blood and they called for a GP to make sure if I was not having a apendix attack and then one ask me if I wasn't sure it was my menstral peroid.....So you can see what faith I have in them......lol

I had so much pain in my middle and my back just felt like it was broken...and I had weighed 90-105 to the age of 55 and when all this started I went up to 165....So I was uncomfortable to say the least...And I was so strict on diet and exercise but it just kept going up...I've finally got down to 125 now but still have the pain....I don't particulairly diet for weight but do try to use the diabetic diet except when I just can't stand it anymore and have a regular meal....I sure hope that you turn out ok..cancer is a scary thing for sure...I was in so much pain and anguish I didn't think much about the cancer part....just wanted relief....But the family was terrorized....and it is always in the back of my mind now..I never suspicioned Cancer myself..But I'm infuriated with the Doc's that couldn't find it for over two years..
