It has been so " touch and go " with this household since my Uncle has been declining because his doctors really don't know what to do. I am so grateful that I found this website and " first hand " information to get us through this very frustrating disease. Just when I think he is at " the end " he does a turn around and that is very confusing. I found out that those moments were TIA's or TUU's and now I will be able to handle them. I thank you again and hope to share some knowledge I have with you and others. I knew this, had read it over and over for my mom and my dad, yet knowing this is how my dad chose the end to his journey sometimes still breaks my heart. I knew at the time it was the right decision to allow my dad his own choice, still it didn't lessen the pain in my heart. Reading this confirmed that supporting my dad in his choice honored my dad. Sandie -- Re: Courage Urgent! Hello Courage, Here's another excerpt that I just read from the Hospice manual: " To withhold or withdraw artificial feeding is to allow a natural death to occur. When a person dies after the withholding of artificial food and fluids, the death is from the condition or disease that made the patient unable to eat, not from the removal of artificial feeding. Therefore, nothing is being introduced to " kill " the patient, but the natural process of dying is being allowed to progress. Choosing not to force-feed a person is choosing not to prolong the dying process. Hope that helps with your decision.
