Guest guest
Hi Terri. Lets look at your breakfast first. You Had 1 package of instant oatmeal, very high in carbs, with 1 piece of whole wheat toast, very high in carbs, with some margarine. You had a small can of V 8, and this also has carbs in it from the tomatos. Some diabetics are greatly effected in their bgs by tomatos and V 8 juice can be potent to some. Now, lets try this in the morning. First, eat 2 or 3 eggs, a few pieces of bacon, and 1 piece of bread. The only reason you are eating 1 piece of bread is so if you do exercise, you won't get a low sugar. If you are not going to exercise, don't eat the bread. For lunch, you had cottage cheese, a milk product, which is a bgs booster. 1 cup of Cottage cheese has about 8 to 12 carbs based on brand. On your salad, did you have croutons? Tomatos? If so, those are carbs and can be pretty high carbs for a serving. Salad dressing? Also has carbs. As you can see, there is no such thing as " free food " . Like I told Harry, if you can get your bgs under control in the morning, the rest of the day goes smoother for you. I'd be willing to help you meal plan for tomorrow if you'd like. Guest guest
BTW Terri you were 140 prior to breakfast which is high. What did you eat prior to bed and what was your bgs prior to bed? Lets see if we can get you lower in the morning which again, will help your entire day. Hi > Hi , > > Thanks for the suggestions. This morning my blood sugar was 140 before I > had breakfast. Guest guest
BTW leave off the applesauce for dinner everything else sounds great! Your getting me hungry smiles. Guest guest
another thought Terri to keep in mind is your type 2. So, you have to be more restrictive with carbs than a type 1. Reason? Your relying on oral meds and exercise to keep your bgs undercontrol and can not shoot quick acting insulin to keep the bgs raise of carbs down. That is ok though. What we are after is stopping the monstrous wave effect of carbs and lowering that to a gentle stream effect. Another way to look at it is instead of eating carbs, a storm at sea, we will limit them and you'll have a gentle rain. BTW when you get your bgs in range 90% of the time, you will never know what you are really doing for yourself Terri. To explain, I recently heard/read about two labs in the US doing research on getting the pancreas to rejuvenate via a simple shot that will release bla bla, can't recall exact name, that will cause the remaining beta cells to recreate new ones and fix the pancreas. I don't have the exact terms and research in front of me but it looks very promising for type 2 diabetics. This is why it is so crucial for you to preserve any pancreas function you have so you can get this done down the road when they perfect it. I am a type 1 diabetic so my pancreas is shot. I have nothing left living that can rejuvenate. As a type 2, the best thing you can do is ease the work on your pancreas and watch those carbs! Hi > > > > Hi , > > > > Thanks for the suggestions. Guest guest
Hi Bill. yup, anything fruit based, be it juice, sauce, jelly, jam, or even the real thing, is high in carbs. However, some may be able to eat a small portion of it and do well via oral meds/exercise. As a type 1, these foods I can be slightly, not much though, more free to eat via carb counting and dosing insulin accordingly. I like to see that Harry's doc got im on lantus and I even know a type 2 on an insulin pump. People hate to hear about going on insulin as a type 2 but I seriously am finding more and more type 2 diabetics going on insulin to help keep their bgs in range. However,I know a lot of type 2 diabetics on oral meds and exercise doing just fine on very low carb daily intake such as 45 to 60 grams per day. Everyone is so individualized in diabetes management that whatever works, works. However, the carbohydrate watching and good bgs control will lead to such wonderful controlable results that it is worth it! I can't belive that I have this much energy now like I never had! I tell ya by keeping my bgs near a normal humans, I can't believe how much better emotionally and physically I feel. Re: Hi > , > > Aw, ya mean even apple sauce has high carbs? Guest guest
Hi , If I don't drink V 8 juice along with my breakfast what other juice would you suggest. I had Kraft Light Done Right salad dressing on my salad. It was just lettuce no tomatoes or croutons. I'll have 2 eggs and one piece of toast for breakfast later on today. I don't have any bacon right now. Terri Hi > > > > Hi , > > > > Thanks for the suggestions. This morning my blood sugar was 140 before I > > had breakfast. Guest guest
Hi , I didn't take my blood sugar before I went to bed last night. I had two pieces of string cheese for a snack before I went to bed. Terri Hi > > > > Hi , > > > > Thanks for the suggestions. This morning my blood sugar was 140 before I > > had breakfast. Guest guest
Hi Terri. The best juice to drink is *none*. Juice is one of the worst things you can eat/drink. Reason? It is a very very quick acting carbohydrate. If you want to drink juice, you shouldn't drink it in the morning since again, mornings you will have a tendency to run high so very low carb in the mornings. If you want or like juice, perhaps try a 1/2 cup of it for lunch since yor metabolism will be in gear by then. You could add a 1/2 cup of water to the juice so you could get an entire cup of juice. I.E 1/2 cup apple juice 1/2 cup water. It waters it down some, but it's not to bad. However, I will bet you run high 2 hours later unless you exercise it off. Just my hunch. I only eat 1 piece of fruit a day... a small apple at 3 pm which is 20 grams of carbs. I'm on insulin so have to eat it so won't go low when my insulin peeks at 3 pm. Guest guest
Hi Terri. The cheese snack was a great choice. Take a check prior to bed to see what you are so you can base how much of a snack to eat even if it is low carb. I.E if you were 275, then you wouldn't even need a snack. Guest guest
Wow, you do have a lot to deal with! We all have some type of pain/depression and you are in the right place. I work night shifts so after 13yrs of this on my nights off i am up mostly all night myself. You mentioned that you go to Denny's and drink coffee and do puzzles, i assume this is the time that your hubby is at work? As a lot of us here know what friends we had before we were injurd are no more. I am one of the lucky ones though, i still have my " inner circle " of friends and my family has been very supportive. I too am on my puter for long hrs, mostly writing/reading my support groups. you will find alot of support from these groups, as we all understand what you are going through. Welcome home and feel free to e-mail me anytime.

She comes in at 11am, and leaves at 3pm, then I am off to Denny's, whether hubby works that day or not. It gives me a place to go, away from the house, and keeps me out of trouble, LOL. About friends, you are right. It seems that you know who your real friends are after something happens, like quitting drinking/drugs, or becoming dis/special-abled. My friends are on the Internet, having moved away some time ago. One went to Nevada, one to Tennessee, and one to Hawaii. We still keep in touch regularly, through emails. In real-life, it would seem that I have no real friends, just people I know / acquaintences. My family hasn't a clue of what I go thru on a daily basis, but they do support me the best they can. Hubby has his own chronic pain too, so he know somewhat of what I go thru. Oh, on the list, I forgot Carpal tunnel syndrome. *********************************** in Washington Emotionally and Medically screwed up ***********************************
