Guest guest
A friend who used to bring us Splenda-sweetened chocolates recommended no more than three at a a time, because they can cause diarrhea. Which I found to be true. Guest guest
I've got my sugar-addicted friends to use molasses sugar instead of Splenda. At least it's got some nutrients in it. I also use it when I'm making bread or cookies etc. (My problem is getting ambushed by chocolate deserts in the supermarkets and heaven knows what's in those!) Guest guest
Thanks Carolina. I agree entirely and have a bit of 70% cocoa solids dark chocolate occasionally. As I only eat low GI foods, I don't have a sugar craving at all. It's just that when I do get attacked by one of these supermarket chocolate trifles - about every three months - I can't just eat the small portion I intend do. It won't let go of me until it's finished. They are all milk chocolate and real cream and just fantastic! Then I feel rather sick and manage to avoid them by for another few months !! Guest guest
Hi Carolina I have real double cream on my breakfast fruit, nuts and seeds every day. It's not a problem at all. I'm on the Schwarzbein Principle [equal amounts of fats (including saturated fat and cholesterol), protein, non-starchy vegetables, and carbohydrates]. Except that I have mild diabetesand impaired mobility from a stroke, so I eat very few carbohydrates. Then, all the carbohydrates that I do eat, have a low glycemic index (low GI) which means that they enter the bloodstream very slowly. High GI foods, like wheat and potatoes, cause a surge of insulin and raise your blood sugar levels very quickly, followed by a drop, making you feel ravenous again not longer after you've eaten them. You don't get hungry for ages after eating low GI foods. If you eat fats with a carbohydrate, it automatically lowers the GI of a food. And it's now being shown that it is high Gi foods that contribute towards heart disease. Much more so than high cholesterol ever did! You also lose weight on a low GI diet - also because you don't put such demands on your insulin - as well as help to control your diabetes. So the cream is no problem at all (as it has no GI) - nor the cocoa (which has a low GI), it's the darned high GI sugar that they use to sweeten the trifles. And even that wouldn't matter too much, if I treated myself once in a while to a little of it once in a while. It's the fact that I simply can't stop.
