Guest guest
Just to let all of you know. While at the doctors office last Fri. I ask if they would do a urine test for UTI on my sister. They did, this was about 2 pm. Monday about 6pm they got a call the test was postive. Now I ask; " is there something wrong with the time?' From Fri until Mon evening and she could have had antibiotics since Fri. I talked with my niece Wed, she said she was some better. Meaning her confusion and being and saying mean things. I will call again tomorrow and hope she will be much better. Oh and the appt with the psychologist will be in Feb!!! Now what do we do until then? Guest guest
Jayn- Whenever I suspected that my Dad had an UTI, I called the Hospice nurse. I would tell her of Dad's signs and symptoms and based on previous experiences believed that it was another UTI. One time there was an unfamiliar Dr. on call who wanted Dad to have a urine cath done and wait until the results came back. I refused to have my Dad to go through a cath in his confused state. Fortunately, we were able to get around the Dr. who wanted to do things by protocol. Another doctor who was in charge of Hospice was contacted by the nurse and the order for medication. One of the reasons, that I did not want to wait for days to get the result back is that with the UTIs Dad would take quite a few steps backwards healthwise and mentally. He did not need that. Next time, insist that they start the medication prophalactically. UTIs are really hard on the elderly. I hope your sister continues to feel better. Gerry Wilmington, De.
