Guest guest
Spongy covering = fat?Diet. Basically u need to create a calorie deficit.1 pound of fat is a store for 3500 cals... Even with an "atkin" diet, if there is no deficit from maintenance amount of calories, you are not going to lose fat.Other issues are like how to preserve lean body mass as much as possible...How u do it , carbo cycling, cyclic keto, etc, is something for u to research and mentioning names may break forum rules, or may not...Age? Think Zane, Clarence Bass, etc...stretch marks? vit e cream perhaps? ask some preggy ladies, she probably have read up on it...johnfult wrote: I'll be 50 in a couple of months, and by doing the BW isos plus some high volume 'reducing' exercises I've managed to get my pecs into the best shape of my life. However, even now when I tense the muscle there is still a spongy covering. Is it realistic to expect solid muscle at this age? Also, there is an area between the pecs and the underarm which is spoiling the look of my upper body by having something akin to 'stretch marks'. Does anyone have any tips on improving this area, and on any other problem areas they have improved using their BW? Thanks, Fult. Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Guest guest
Thanks , Yes, my diet probably could be better but I also wanted to know if I was chasing the impossible. Having looked up the 2 guys you mention I can see that I'm not, and as Zane reckons 'age is no barrier - it just takes longer.' Fult. Also, remember that more muscle increases metabolic rate (muscle burns calories at a greater rate than fat). So strength training (with something like the Bullworker or weights) will help burn calories. Of course diet is very important, too. Guest guest
Hormonally speaking, being 50 DOES make a difference, especially in the area of muscle tonus. Simply put, the muscles are harder to build(mass) and their resting tonus declines as we age. That is simply physiology and chemistry. Can you build muscle at our age. Yes, but it is simply much harder and tonus declines markedly. If you look at pictures of Zane TODAY, you will see evidence of this. Not to worry, keep working out and you can be as good as need to be. PS-Testosterone patches work well on this issue. > > I'll be 50 in a couple of months, and by doing the BW isos plus > some high volume 'reducing' exercises I've managed to get my > pecs into the best shape of my life. Guest guest
Zane at 65 looks better than he did when he first started out...http://www.frankzane.com/ Put your mouse over the main picture to get the black and white one of him in his younger days. And compare it to the one here http://www.frankzane.com/appearances.htmU just have to rev up testosterone with compound exercises and nutrition (and I dun mean gear). And the biggest muscles are the core and the lower body which the bullworker dun hit so well. And I would argue that this is the primary weakness of just relying on ONLY a bullworker. Off course, bullworker or nothing, bullworker is better.rrbelloff wrote: Hormonally speaking, being 50 DOES make a difference, especially in the area of muscle tonus. Guest guest
No offense to , who I admire. I saw him last year and he does NOT look like that age 64 photo on his site. He DOES look like the guy selling his T-shirt in the first page of his website, ie. a pretty good in-shape 65 yr old. The other pose looks photo shopped to me, candidly. Look again, and see what I mean. Moreover, what makes you think would not be using Testosterone today? He would be silly not too, and at his age, he can get legal patch from most MDs. In regards to revving up your testosterone through exercise, that tends to diminish as one gets older. Sad but true. Sorry, hormones are homrones. Again, it doesn't mean you can't get fit and strong, simply that you will NOT look like a 30 yrd. old. The muscles tend to sag a bit, even happened to Jack laLanne in his 60s, although he was very very fit. Alas, if it were only true. Guest guest
Serious!!!I only got the webby photos to go by...His quads looks still nicely ripped though his abs looked smooth. Zane could be using but why? He's not competing anymore.Bass looks ok though but maybe he's a mutant given the ease he stays at that BF%. I dun think Bass was ever drug assisted... Diet, diet, diet...rrbelloff wrote: No offense to , who I admire. I saw him last year and he does NOT look like that age 64 photo on his site. Guest guest
I meant legally acquired Tesosterone. This is regularly prescribed for men in their 60s to bring T levels up a bit, not enough to get gigantic and all. Bass does seem bizarre. I don't know but he doesn't look normal to me. > > > > > > I'll be 50 in a couple of months, and by doing the BW isos plus > > > some high volume 'reducing' exercises I've managed to get my > > > pecs into the best shape of my life.
