I been hoping to replace Lipitor with Niasin. Just finished taking

500mg/day of Niaspan....blood work indicated no change anywhere

close to that under Lipitor use..

Anyone take Niasin? Any success? How much per day?

I took Niaspan at the direction of my doctor for a little over a

week. Then I awoke one night and my throat was swelling. It got a

little scary. I called the doctor's office and he immediately

removed the Niaspan. I am now taking cinnamon, which he

recommended. I take one 500 mg. tablet in the a.m. and one in the

p.m. after eating. I will then be evaluated after 3 months. I

bought the Natures Bounty brand at Walgreens. It is a new product

and costs less than $10 for over a months supply. I told the doctor

I just could not go back on statins because of the neuropathy pain it

induced.

Joan,

Glad you have a dr. who is into the supplements and is

not solidly sold on pharma. only.

I take NIACIN every day. I take the NO BLUSH type. I

figure it sure could not hurt when combined with

Policosanol.

I will do some research on cinnamon. Never heard of

it reducing cholesterol. I do take my Cayenne every

day too and Ester C and a bunch of other supplements.

That reminds me, I need to get into town and buy some

more COQ10. I have been out for about 10 days and am

feeling the effects of not having any in me.

I took 10 mg of Policosanol with my 10mg og Lipitor for 4 months to

see if it had any effect. My #s were the same as with just Lipitor.

I am going to increase to 20mg for 3 months...will keep you posted.
