Guest guest
Started taking lipitor and lobid 4 years ago as prescribed by me Dr. for high cholesterol and high triglycerides. 6 mos. later started feeling aching and tingling in my feet and lower legs. 2 years ago , as the pain got worse I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. I stopped taking the statins, but the damage is already done. Now I have a neurostimulator for the pain, and am awaiting an intrathecal pump. I'm unable to work. My neurologist says their is no proof that the statins caused the neuropathy, but after a complete workup there is no other answer for it. Is there anyone out there who has had this happen to them? thanks. Yes, I was prescribed Crestor , and got numbness in both feet ,went off of it, the numbness left . The cardiologist then prescribed Pravachal ,and the numbness returned ..I went off all statins, but the numbness remained . I too have peripheral neuropathy , 24/7 both feet ,and hands , in the morning mostly . I was also DX'd with diabetes, but that was after the neuropathy, and not before . I was checked frequently for diabetes , so it wasn't long standing . Les .

I am not sure what my neuro surgeon has put in my chart but I did have this before being diagnosed with diabetes and after using Lipitor for over a year. I also have burning pain in both archilles tendons and sometimes it feels as if my feet are on fire. But still my neuro surgeon tries to blame this on diabetes. Today I have appointment to have EMG's on both legs and one arm. I am a little scared but maybe this test will tell something. Guest guest
Jeanne, isn't it amazing how the Dr's always blame everything on diabetes ! Les . Hello Les, Yes, it sure is. My story of diabetes is very strange. My blood sugar's were a little high for a while. My primary doctor had told me several months ago to watch myself as I could develop diabetes. At one time they had sent me for a 3 hour blood glucose test. When I went back to my primary doctor he was not in and I had seen a physician assistant. She had told me based on the results I was diabetic and wrote me scripts for a free-style machine and test strips. She also referred me to a nutrionist. She said I could control this through diet since my levels weren't high. I continued to watch my diet and all. A few months later when I saw my primary doctor and showed him my readings he had told me that I was not diabetic that I was pre-diabetic. But he also said my reading's were high and sent me for another hemoglobin a1c. That came back at a 6.2. He still said that puts me in the category as pre-diabetic. Since then I have gotten my blood sugar readings down lower, but this past week they have been rising again. So I really don't know what to make of this whole mess. Jeanne Hi, Jeanne, I think it depends on what DR you got too! I've heard people tell me there is no such thing as being pre-diabetic, either you are or you aren't,according to their Dr. and yet they are using that term still, so it is very confusing. With me, my fasting glucose readings were 145 when they determined I was diabetic, and when I started testing myself, I was alarmed to find that I was going as high as 250 sometimes. I wasn't surprised, though, since I was the last one in my family that wasn't DX'd with diabetes. Les.
