If I can't get him under control, I may need to get him back on one of his prescriptions in order for him to be able to attend school. I know, I know. But we're talking about physical violence when he's provoked, and they simply won't tolerate it. The staff have been very patient and is working with him on his behavior. He has improved tremendously, but he just loses control without the Tenex or Clonidine. He's fine when there is no stress like at home, but even a little social stress and he lashes out when he doesn't know what else to do. (Hence the head-hitting, hand-breaking incident.) Liz Liz, I believe my son's similar problems disappeared when he got up to enough zinc. For him, I think it was a copper problem. He is 140 lbs, and takes 150mg zinc per day. a H. Guest guest
This sounds like my 13yo on soy - but, I think that you removed soy. Could there be infractions at school. In our case just the tiniest bit of Clonidine seemed to solve the problem on school days. But my son was rather new to the diet and didn't fully grasp the importance of infractions. Guest guest
You are correct in remembering that he doesn't eat any soy, or any kind of beans, for that matter. We aren't sure if it's all legumes, so I'm thinking about taking out peanuts, too. I have been giving him 1/2 a tiny Clonidine pill every day before school this week, with mixed results. I will talk to them at the end of the week and get some feedback. I'm more inclined to think it's a reaction to something he normally has in his diet. Every time I take out something suspicious, he improves. That's been the pattern. I just don't want to be one of those families that has to take out so much they decide to do SCD. Ugh, another new diet, with even more cooking. He isn't allowed to eat anything at school that I didn't give him. He's 99% compliant. But there have been times when he simply couldn't resist something like cake. At this point, however, it's difficult to see a reaction unless it's a BIG infraction. There could be more infractions that I don't know about. Guest guest
I will look at how much zinc I'm giving him. He does get a supp, but I don't remember how much.
