Well, 2 years ago I was a beer truck delivery/driver in santa Cruz , ca...3

months into the job, I managed to have " torn " 2 of my lower disks and 2 are also

herniated...I have been dealing with worker's comp for 2 years now and have

gotten NO-where as far as an option for surgery or anyththing......I have had 2

MRI's and I just keep getting shuffled around to different doctors that always

stick me in physical therapy. Th ephysical therapists tellme the same thing as

the doctors say.... " there's really nothing we can do fo rthis kind of injury,

but maybe by strengthening the spinal muscles for stabilazation, your pain can

be minimalized " ....I can't even get out of bed sometimes for hours after waking

up without having to basically crawl to where I want to get to.

I was prescribed " Kadian " a month ago (time released morphine) and that

turned m einto a vegetable with constipation so bad it wasn't worth it...I ended

up having equal pain in my ass as well as m ylower back injury area!

(chuckle)...Then, they suggested I try " methadone " ....tried that and I was in

such a comatose feeling that I looked and felt like I was some kind of guy on

psych meds out of the county mental ward.....Now? I am on oxycontins and I have

developed a tolerance so quickly to those in just a month that the 2 pills I am

allotted a day don't even phase the pain....I WAS on Norco's, Neurontins,

vicodin, etc for the first 20 months since the injury (6-3-04) and I was totally

immune to the hydrocodone pain relief as well as physically addicted...I cant

work an dbarely make enough to survive on " permanent Disability. "

I am 39 years old going on about 79 and have recently relocated to Boise,

Idaho (November) in hopes of being able to take a welding job that allowed me to

make a living...that lasted 5 weeks and I just couldn't take the pain anymore,

so here i ma ...home all the time in a new state, seeing a new pain-management

doctor that doesn't seem to believe that 20 mg's of oxycodone doesn't rid of my

pain...Would I rather be a drug addict and have my pain minimalized enough to

where i could at least move about ? Or...should I listen to the doctors and just

remain in all of this pain to where I can't do anything anyway?

first of all U don't get addicted if U don't abuse people in pain are not

drug addicts there addicted to not being in pain ..oxycontin is a class 2

narcotics like morphine and methadone... perhaps U can ask your Dr for a

couple

5mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough pain and 20 mg's is not a lot of

oxycontin but abused it is a extremely dangerous drug because it is time

released

...Drs tend to fear giving it out sadly

My hubby was put on Vicodin for neck pain aand he said he got constipated. I

told him " welcome to the world of narcotic pain relief! " .

I've been taking Methadone for over a year now, and I've been constipated

ever since I started Vicadin, way back 3 or 4 years ago, but it got real bad w/

Meth. I use Womens Correctall to soften things up, and it really helps, with NO

CRAMPING!!

Good, ol' generic Colace...softener..cheap and works.

If you're on narcotics..it's a good thing to have

around and I have had real good luck with 'em..

Sometimes we just jump in and " Vent " . Chronic Pain

can do that to ya. Sometimes somewill will respond to

it or maybe not...the thing is that the person got to

vent. I know sometimes it gets to me and just letting

off the steam is nice.

Everyone understands it and the need to do so. That's

what makes a pain group a good thing to have if you're

in chronic pain. We all understand.

Asking questions, showing the latest study on

something to do with the CP and so on. Or..share some

humor here and there just because it's cute...

Just jump in. Even if it " seems " like you're being

ignored...you're not. We all read it and sometimes

say something directly about it or maybe not..but we

see and understand it.

Welcome Darin,

So glad you joined the group. We all might have different health

issues, but we all have chronic pain. We all have bad days, and so

often we can't be on here, but just be patient, were all here for each

other. Hope to hear more from you, Tawny

Hey Darin,

My husband tried that job where we live and lasted one day....he said it was

so freakin hard he couldn't do it because it hurt his whole body. Anyway...I

m actually the pain pt and take 20 mg methadone in am and 20 mg again in PM

along with zanaflex, ativan 2 mg, requip for restless leg syndrome. I have

chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, hashimoto

thyroiditis/hashimoto encephalopathy?, I'm either suffering from something

else autoimmune or I'm out of remission from the HE.

In Louisiana where I live you are SOL on a good med doc but the will do

surgery, injects, epidurals all day long if you'll let em. I'm about to lose

my last prescribing doc then I don't know. I'll take addiction anyday over

pain.
