We kiss the top of her head a lot more, too. I know Maddie will get used to it, it'll just take time. She's been pretty fussy today, but I think it's a combination of the band and very little sleep. Guest guest Posted May 9, 2000 Report Share Posted May 9, 2000 Hang in there ! Maddie will pull through. Hanna slept soundly from day one, but they're all different. I didn't realize what very well natured little sweetheart I had. She popped her first tooth on Sunday, her second on Monday, and I think there's another one on it's way (one cheek is beet red!!) Anyway, not a peep about either tooth. I wouldn't have even known the first was there if I hadn't had my fingers in there!!! I too miss all the strokes and kisses. I find myself kissing the band itself (at the forehead). When I try to kiss her cheek/nose, whatever, I always bang the bridge of my nose on the edge of the band - yee-ouch!!! I'll never learn. I've done it a hundred times, and I'll expect a hundred more! After we left his head alone, he pulled a few times on the velcro and then left it alone. (He is 8 1/2 months) The first night of sleep was tough (strange house, bed, the band) and I had to rock him to sleep and put him in the crib without waking (it took 4 tries) but he slept through the night. Having the band has actually helped his rolling over skills. He was just starting to master that when we got the band and it didn't stop him one bit. Now he gets furious when he gets stuck on his tummy when he has rolled into a corner somewhere. I hope Maddie (and you) gets through these first days ok. Last night it took me two tries of rocking her to sleep and transferring her to her crib without waking her before successfully putting her down. She slept through the whole night and even slept later than she normally does. Poor thing was just exhausted. I know she's getting used to it and again, during the day, doesn't mind it at all. I think she just has trouble getting comfy at night, then gets frustrated. We're getting ready to snazz up the band with some paint and/or stickers. Call me sick, but she looks kind of cute in the thing. My husband said it reminds him of an old time hockey helmet, similar to one he had as a child. I know how tough it is to start rocking to sleep and tip toeing out of a room again!!! We opted to use stickers. My 4 year old can help, therefore she is proud of it and tells EVERYONE all about it when we are out and about. Also, we'll change them every week (every day if she had her way!). The painted ones do look better, but stickers will work fine for us. And I agree, the kids do look cute. It's those darn cute smiles they have!! I think that on top of getting used to the band she has also gotten some sort of bug and just hasn't been herself. Just a tough week all around! I finally went to 's and bought some stickers, paint and some acrylic varnish for finish it off. I think we'll do a combination of paint and stickers. I'm a big Golden Retriever lover and am involved in Golden rescue here in AZ so I had thought about doing a bunch of Goldens frolicking on her band, but I think we'll stick to the original plan of an underwater scene. " I would encourage rescue...they are the best pets - whether you go with a pure breed or mix. Sadly, our first Golden rescue, Buzzy,(who started out as my foster boy, then I fell in love and adopted him) passed away this past spring. He was just so special. We have a program for greyhounds in our area (giving homes to retired racing dogs) but who would not want a golden retriever? They are such beautiful dogs. People begin breeding irresponsibly (and at high volumes) and people BUY irresponsibly. We take in Goldens anywhere from several months old to 13 years old. Some dogs come to us for reasons such as owners death or owner moving out of the country. Sometimes it's divorce and sometimes it's just plain " we don't have time " . We also pick up dogs at pound who were strays. If you have some extra time you can check out our website at www.golden-retriever.org We are just one of many Golden rescues throughout the country. In a couple of years I think we will look into getting one. I can't imagine my life without a golden in it. I not only have to worry about our son, 's head, but Dakota also has allergies, and is always throwing us something to deal with - we laugh and say we need medical insurance for our dog. But I wouldn't change it for anything - he's been the bes pet and is absolutely wonderful with his little human " brother " . Even thought Dakota has allergies, and gets hot spots, I would do anything for him.
