Guest guest
Hi from Oakville My Mum has had chronic problems with her feet all her life. One of the things I do is take her to a chiropodist. She gets her feet massaged, her toenails cut, the calluses and corns treated. We kind of treat it as a " spa " thing. The chriopodist recommended sox for diabetics - almost every pair of socks my Mum owed were extremely difficult to get on her plus they cut into her feet. These diabetic " sox " are expensive ($18 per pair) but I notice that between the sox and the chiropodist every couple of months her feet do not appear to be nearly as swollen or sore. While Mum can still get out - I will continue to take her out to the chiropodist however - when that becomes more difficult as this desease progresses, there is a " foot therapist " who will come into Mum's residence. Something to think about. PS - Looking forward to meeting you at the LBD (Toronto) meeting. I lived (and went to college) in Oakville a million years ago - Where in Oakville are you? --- stimtimminss wrote: --------------------------------- Because of the information shared here about purple toes, lowered blood pressure, bed sores, I became proactive today and ordered my mother some lambswool slippers. Her feet have swollen, shoes don't fit anymore, and velcro slippers are even leaving a slight mark on her feet. I have been concerned about her heels resting daily on her elevated footrests, then in bed, even though the nh provides puffy pillow supporters. With them toes are bare, and I want her entire foot warm and comfy. I give credit to the future prevention of pressure sores on her heels to the support of this conference and my meeting with Doris (Toronto) yesterday. I m feeling invigorated and ready to continue the journey! Thank you Doris, thank you all. Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
Guest guest
Hi , I actually have had a reflexologist attend to Mom's nails and massage of feet and hands since entering a nh. She is a former RN who does this now, claims that massaging Mom's hands gets the fingers straight and relaxed for that time at least. Mom actually started reflexology while still living in her own apartment, when walking started becoming an issue with her Parkinsons symptoms so I feel it is something I should be continuing. I am hoping she still appreciates the " spa " treatment, but if not, feel it is of benefit and I feel better knowing it is being done for her. I will remember the circulatory sox if needed in future. Thank you for your good suggestions. I live in Bronte, near the harbour, work in " olde " Oakville, have a daughter still at Sheridan, illustration. Son graduated there from animation. Looking forward to the opportunity to meet soon. > > > --------------------------------- > Because of the information shared here about purple toes, lowered blood > pressure, bed > sores, I became proactive today and ordered my mother some lambswool > slippers.
