Guest guest
Hopefully these embedded images will come out in the email: Hi everyone, I had a consult today with a mom that complained of strange sore like "wound" on her left breast. It has a strange yellow ring around it - She is in no pain - baby at home seemed upset with that side - at consult he did fine. I do not think it is an abcess or a plugged duct - could be something dermo or maybe a bug bite - spider ? As I said no pain or fever. I would love to hear from you all if you have ideas - other wise I am recommending a dermatologist exam. Thanks for anything any of you can come up with. Thanks Donna Just some background information just in case it is relevant. Some Hx: As you will see she is large breasted - She had been dx with PCOS - had been on two infertility drugs - glucafauge (sic) and clomadin (sic) for approx a year - with no result - then after a few months of no drugs became pregnant - had some bleeding, on bed rest - started labor at 39 weeks and then baby's heart rate dropped and C - section is performed. Baby had jaundice and was losing weight (from 6 -12 to 5 -9 then 6-2 ) currently at 7 14 at 10 1/2 weeks. Doctor wanted a ped cardiologist exam due to dads heart hx. Baby is fine. Baby is collicky - mom is a vegetarian that drinks milk and eats dairy ( I advised to eliminate dairy ) Baby does look under weight - mom is over weight and dad is very small and thin. I did not have a scale to do before and after weighs. I did hear swallows -and mom did pump about a total ounce from both sides after nursing - baby was still hungry I fed from cup. I am not certain that he is getting enough from the nursing - although his diapers are good. He is due for a weight check in 10 days - I think that 4 or 5 days is better and will advise that. Left breast mid way between nipple and areola and underarm. closer view - color is correct "It's the lucky baby, I feel, who continues to nurse until he's two."Antonia Novello, MD, MPH, DrPHSurgeon General 1990-1993Donna Kimick, IBCLCLakeShore Lactation & Breastfeeding Center
