Guest guest
kathy what did she like to do, would some childrens or easy jigsaw puzzles be ok maybe some crafts that are simple, maybe some easy take like stuff envelops for the bills, or puttingh address labels on all the envelops i dont recall how your mother is but anything like that, ; crafts like loom projects or latch hook are simple to learn, maybe sorting pictures from family to friends or something, if she is still capaab;le why not make photo albums of the pictures while she still can and mayhbe that will help her as she will remember adn share storeis that you may not have heard. just thinking out loud here, good luck hugs sharon m -- Re: LBD Thanks for the info and the welcome! I look forward to having this group as my " lifeline " and support. My Mom is currently on Namenda and Aricept. We have started and stopped the Aricept a couple of times thinking it was causing her bowel incontinence but have discovered that problem is related to the disease and not the med. Mom seems better on the med so we restarted it again this weekend. Mom seems to have a continual need to be " doing something " . It is almost like a psychomotor agitation. She was always a very hard working woman and I attribute these actions to the fact that she still wants to be productive but just doesn't know how. Any advice in that area from any one? Thanks Kathy
Guest guest
Mom loved to cook, crochet and do housework. Cooking she can still do but getting difficult. Crocheting is out - she gets too mixed up and then gets frustrated. I have been working with her on the photo albums but could have her do more of the sorting and the labels on envelopes is a good idea - thanks! Learning new tasks appears to be difficult for her. It appears that she has lost the ability to read and numbers are tottaly out. I gave her a photo memory phone which helps. But she loved to read and do her Bible studies. I think I will try to get some audio Bible studies for her to try. Any other ideas? *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** kathy what did she like to do, would some childrens or easy jigsaw puzzles be ok maybe some crafts that are simple, maybe some easy take like stuff envelops for the bills, or puttingh address labels on all the envelops i dont recall how your mother is but anything like that, ; crafts like loom projects or latch hook are simple to learn, maybe sorting pictures from family to friends or something, if she is still capaab;le why not make photo albums of the pictures while she still can and mayhbe that will help her as she will remember adn share storeis that you may not have heard. just thinking out loud here, good luck hugs sharon m -- Re: LBD Thanks for the info and the welcome! Guest guest
HI Kathy, My mom was also very hard working - first one up and last to bed. When she was agitated or seemed like she needed something to do I would give her two boxes, one full, one emply. She would spend some time transfering items from one box to the other or just looking them over or taking them apart. I also filled up a plastic bag with items and she would dig through that too. When she wasn't as advanced in the disease I would get paint supplies and crayon, etc at the dollar store and we would do crafts - or an LBD version of crafts. There was also the phase where mom would take out each and every single tissue out of the box and fold them up. It kept her " busy " for hours and she really seemed to enjoy it. Hope this helps.
