Guest guest
I am sorry I do not know many names yet, but I did want to comment on the rash topic. Annette also has had many rashes, some leaving bleeding, open sores on her face. She was Dx with eczema as a baby and they always treated it with topical steroids. Personally I did not see any real improvement, but it did successfully bleach out her skin. I started mixing several ointments together and using the mixture on virtually any skin " thing " she developed. We have never had a problem since. The mix is all over-the-counter stuff with the exception of the nystatin cream or ointment. But you can substitute any cream used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Here goes: 3 parts Aquaphore, 1 part Nystatin cream or ointment, 1 part Zinc Oxide, 1 part Bacitracin, 1 part Hydrocortisone cream. Mix it really good with a tongue depressor and use it 2 - 3 times daily on the affected areas. We saw improvements in her eczema, a terrible fungal infection covering her whole forehead and hair line, and raised red patches that itched. I also thought that I would mention that she also had the small itchy red bumps that would get larger and larger over time. The dermatologist Dx it as " itchy red bump syndrome " (for real, that was the name he used!) and put her on 10 cc (10 mg) of Zyrtec (a once a day antihistamine). It was the answer and 2 years later we have not had any itchy red bumps (except when her infectious disease dr thought that the Dx was farfetched and took her off of the Zyrtec. She developed several spots within 2 days of the discontinuation and complete resolution of the problem almost immediately after she went back on it.) Just more food for thought. Sorry so long. mommy to Annette 10 yo with AIDS and Deficiency of IGg2 and IGg4 subclasses. Also mommy to 4 yo Dx with brain tumor 3/98, both doing well at this time. Guest guest
Macey has some type of rash/whelp/eczema going on right now. She has three small whelps that are crusted over on her lower trunk, both butt cheeks are red and crusted over, there is a quarter size whelp/hive on each hip which is hot to the touch and then she has two or three small finger tip size crusty circles on the right leg. For three days now we've dosed with Atarax (2 extra doses a day), applied Eucerin cream and treated with Elocon. The only thing we can associated this sudden outbreak with and the vicinity that its in is that we recently took her out of her diapers that home health provides for overnight and tried to use " Goodnites " which are for children who wet the bed. The rash came on the evening after the first night she wore the pull-ups. Not thinking I did all the medicating and put her back in them another night. By the third day we figured it was A) reaction to IVIG (albeit a very localized one) or reaction to the change in diapers. Then my MIL pointed out that the diapers (Promise youth briefs) provided by HH and paid for by the state were Latex free and that maybe there was something in the Goodnites that wasn't agreeing with Macey. So tonight is her second night back in the diapers and if the rash doesn't resolve by tomorrow I'll have someone look at it. If it does resolve then it must have been the pullups. Oh and tonight upon inspecting/medicating there are all these nice little red dots on the back of her legs. and she has some fever. Guest guest
ohhhh you're not even funny.... wouldn't there be some on her stomach and mid-back? do chicken pox and eczema go together sometimes? Guest guest
Has she had chicken pox yet? It sounds like that might be your culprit. Even if she has had the varivax shot she can still get them. Try an eveno bath, it helps any rash dry up. Your doctor should be able to call out acylovier to help the chicken pox not be so bad. If this is what she has. Hope all goes well. , mother of and Cameron. Re: Digest Number 413 From: RCurk@... I am sorry I do not know many names yet, but I did want to comment on the rash topic. Guest guest
no chicken pox yet. the eczema is very much already dried up, actually it's crusting. Her previous immunologist, Dr. Harville said that if she ever got it she would need 7 days of IV Acyclovir and then 30 days of oral. The guy who took over for him when he moved to Arkansas, Dr. Firschein hasn't set a protocol yet and I haven't thought to ask. They haven't differed too much on treating her though BUT HUSSHHH, this child does not have chicken pox. Ursula - & Macey (4 yr old w/CVID) mom Re: Digest Number 413 Has she had chicken pox yet? Guest guest
Sometimes they take awhile to break out in all the " normal " places, & since when did anything follow a " normal " course in " our " kids???? If Macey gets eczema on a regular basis & it is considered " normal " (I LOVE that word tonight!!) for her then, yes they could co exist. We have had several " scares " with the chickenpox & that's why it came to mind. Luckily Wade has never had them(neither have I) & he's old enough now that the doctors seem to think that he probably wouldn't get them even if he was exposed. I think that's " hog wash " because I know adults who have gotten chickenpox from their kids!!!PLEASE keep me posted! Good Luck & I hope that Macey feels better!
