Guest guest
Hello Jan, I was wondering how you were doing. I must tell you I went through a similar experience with the Hospice choice too. My Unc's doctor said the same thing...that " he wasn't 6 mos. off, " so he was not going to " bother " with hospice. So, I went to the TOP and called the Director of Hospice and she could tell how stressed out and desperate I was, so she came and " assessed " my Unc at my home herself. SHE called my Unc's doctor and TOLD HIM that we needed Hospice's services in order for me to take proper care of my Uncle. You don't have to be in a " 6 months to die " situation before Hospice can help you. You just need to basically agree that you want " comfort care " instead of a " cure " for your disease. Your situation is worse than mine. I will ask (the Director of Hospice down here in So. Cal) if she knows of anyone that can help you out up where you are and will let you know what she says. Good grief!.....I will go as far as calling my lawyer, who has worked with the Elderly for 35 years, to see if there is a proper lawyer reference for you too! I can't believe your situation and would absolutely go bonkee if I had to put up with it....again....! I will make the calls and see if I can get you any references. Take care and I hope you will be able to get some help soon! Peace to you and rats to the step-people! LOL Stevie * * * * * * * * * * Stevie and Dena, I live in Northern California. I heard where others were able to get Hospice in to help even if their LO was not 6 months terminal. I called Hospice and they said that I needed my husband's primary doctor to request Hospice to come to my home and evaluate my husband. So I called the doctor. At first the doctor said that Jim did not qualify, because he is not 6 months termainal and didn't see a reason to call them. So I put up a fit and screamed, that I needed help, so the doctor put in a request. Hospice came and asked me questions about Jim, I played up every angle about his demands and needs, but he did not qualify. He was in bed when they came, but she went back to see him and asked him to sit up, he could with her assistance. Since he was not bedridden and 6 months terminal, she said he did not qualify. I am at my wits end and need help. We don't qualify for anything. I applied for MediCal/Medicaid again on December 2, since my Elder Care Attorney specializing in MediCal went over all of our assets and said that Jim would qualify, since the assets were all protected and in Trusts, but it came back denied. I have been so down. I called Alzheimer's assoc. for help too. They also sent me a form online of our assets. I am beginning to think there is no relief for me. I can't get to the money being in Trusts to keep care of Jim and the house repairs. I don't know what to do. My attorney was on vacation until January 3, so I called to make another appointment to see where everything went wrong. I hope Dena has better luck than I have had. Guest guest
It seems a shame that all you seem to hit is one brick wall after the other. Have the kids even been to see him? Guest guest
Most places also have more than one Hospice. Try another. I wouldn't take no for an answer at this point. I know states are funding home care out of Medicare. I just don't know where. For those of you who have a few minutes, please check in your own Gov. site. It would be helpful for us to get some of these resources in place. Donna R Do you want to read more about Lewy Body? You can also read the Thistle, the LBD Newsletter. Guest guest
Dear Jan Do we live in a weird state or what? How can others get Hospice so easily and we cannot? It's like they think we are lying or something. The doctor that turned us down only asked my Mom one question. " Where are you at right now? " and she answered the wrong city. He spoke to me the rest of the time and that was the first and only time we have seen that doctor. How can such a one time thing be set in stone? I have calls in right now trying to find out some answers. If I get any, which I doubt, I will let you know. I think I am going to look into residential care before I totally lose it. I feel like I am at a breaking point today. Dena --- Janet Colello wrote: > Stevie and Dena, > I live in Northern California.
