Oh, I'm so glad to hear this!!!! Just ease back into your routine and include a lot of stretching for the hips and butt!I absolutely love Classical Stretch and find that I get a lot of back pain relief from it.

Feeling pretty good! He said that the old herniated disc is NOT the cause of the sciatica, but rather the piriformis muscle is! He poked and prodded quite a bit -- it was strange to have him poke and me jump, and hear "Good!" He said that meant it was an in-the-muscle-and-not-the-spine sort of "good." He said one of the test he performed would have sent me through the ceiling if I had an irritated disc.He gave me some stretches to perform and said I should be back to normal within a week. He thought I had probably just overworked that area, and to back off the glutes for a while. You don't know how relieved I am to hear this!!I will need to watch what I'm doing though. He also said that once a disc is damaged, it's damaged. It may no longer be inflamed, but it's never healed.Indyrose

this is extremely great news to hear that you didn't aggravate a back injury! this is the absolute #1 reason our athletic program harps on stretching!!! i know some athletes don't do b/c they think it effects their strength (aka MMA fighter rampage thinks not stretching enhances his power) but many swear by it b/c once that muscle gets tight, it starts to pull on everything else. stiffness also effect the joints and lord knows we don't need that. i foam roll this area after every run regardless if i have time to do a whole session. to do the IT band as well are top priorities b/c if i get hurt it will side line my training and my life!KASSIAwife,mother,student,kettlebellehttp://ldysolana.blogspot.com

You don't know how relieved that makes me feel! I had just assumed that it was

my back, since it had happened that way before. I've never really had muscle

problems before -- of course I've never been 52 before, either...

they say when you get stronger sometimes the muscles get tighter. and in some videos its not an area that is focused on during the stretch like quads and hammies.some ideas for stretches(listed in right hand column for each body part) for the whole group in case you have a tight areas. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html while my hips get attention everyday they are the tightest, but my spot would be shoulders and neck.KASSIAwife,mother,student,kettlebellehttp://ldysolana.blogspot.comYou don't know how relieved that makes me feel! Hi Indy - I can't remember if I replied or not, but that is great, great news. And something you can work to fix. Did the chiro do the straight leg test (have you lie down on your back and then lift your leg straight up) - mine does that when he's trying to figure out what is up with me. In October I had a really bad flare up and he was worried it was a disc issue until he performed a bunch of tests and I didn't "react" to them.

Take care -

That was one of many tests he did. He bowed my back a little and gave a kind-of

downward push, and said if I had disc problems that would have sent me through

the ceiling. It's so nice to see someone do actual " hands one " medicine, rather

than pull out the prescription pad!

I believe I'll remember to stretch better from here on out! Some of Cathe's

" warm-ups " are set at full work out pace for me!

That is why I prefer Chiro - there are so many darned side effects to taking meds long term. I understand that sometimes you do need steroids or NSAIDs to knock out inflammation but it shouldn't be a regular thing. My chiro once said "back pain doesn't come from a lack of Advil"!

I generally like my chiro a lot, I just wish he were better at showing me some exercises I could do - although, when he has shown things to me, they are usually things I do anyway.

Take care -

I only had to use the steroids for a week or so to help my back, but yeah, now that I've found my chiro, " Dr. No " , I'll never go to the regular doctor again for a non bleeding injury.

i admit i was skeptical of chiropractors for a while but when i started doing my research for what major i would pick for school, they are like specialized therapists. they work with the body over use medication to relieve the pain. i eat crow on anything i ever said bad about them. :)KASSIAwife,mother,student,kettlebellehttp://ldysolana.blogspot.comSubject: Re: Back from the chiropractor's office! To:

I was skeptical, too, Kassia! But mine has really helped me a lot - I can do a lot more w/out pain or limitation now (sure, I will sometimes do something to cause a flare up, but it isn't constant!)
