Guest guest
Dena....has your Mother lost any weight lately? That's what will get your Mom qualified the fastest. I called the Hospice program that my Uncle is on and they were appalled that you were turned down. Also, there are many other Hospice programs out there...you just have to find one that listens. I have a message in for (the Director) to call me and will let you know what she says. Apparently this is their busiest season! I also talked to the lawyers office for Jan and they gave me two references up in Northern California and I also found out that my lawyer works with the Elderly all over the country. The first call is no charge as long as you can cap it off so he can get the jest of what the problem is and then he can refer you to someone up there or guide you for his regular hourly fee over the phone. I have used him for several years and he got us out of some sticky situations with so called " friends " and " family " . Now, when there is a problem, I just call him and am able to handle things over the phone. Well worth the money! Let me know if you would like his number and I will email it to you. I would LOVE to see him get the step-people! LOL Lots of luck to both of you! Stevie * * * * * * * * * * * * * Dear Stevie and Jan I just called hospice with the number you gave me Stevie. She told me that in California many doctors feel the patient has to be bedridden because hospice has been abused in CA. With dementia patients doctors were asking for hospice and the patients lived 3 or 4 years on the program and this was impacting the program. So now, doctors think they have to wait until they are bedridden. The hospice worker told me that is not the case. You can ask for a evaluation from hospice or from your doctor. Just evaluate and see if they meet the criteria. I did this today also. I left messages everywhere so I hope and pray someone calls me back. Thanks again Stevie for all your great help

Guest guest
My mother has been in hospice for the last year. It's wonderful. The extra care really helps and they also gave me time -- and an ear -- when I got upset about mother not getting enough stimulation from the nh staff. I was afraid hospice would throw her out of hospice because the extra visits and stimulation from the hospice people made her seem to get better at first. They had thrown another patient out of hosipce because they decided she wasn't sick enough, but they didn't throw mother out. They said in a care conference that she was dying although not necessarily in the next few weeks or months. So they are realistic in their evaluation. My mother lost 22 lbs in 2005 and is below 100 lbs now and that's what they base their evaluation on. > > Dear Stevie and Jan > > I just called hospice with the number you gave me > Stevie.
