It's Interesting that she said the parents of autistics. Did she even get that

you are autistic or that it was possible for an autistic to post on a board.

I know. That's what I was thinking. People on the Asperger's

message board said they liked it. I have mentioned having Asperger's

on that particular board and I thought by the wording of the

sentence, people would be able to tell what I was trying to say. I

still don't understand how it could be offensive. I'm defending the

autistics who get picked on for being different and what people

consider " geeky " . People consider it a bad thing and thats what they

get picked on for, right?

Hi Lori,

This is precisely the reason I am no longer an AOL user. Some forums'

interpretation of the TOS borders on the ridiculous.

Re: An AOL board host...

I forgot to mention--She said the term violated TOS and pulled all of

my messages with that sig line. >:o

I know you! I loved that signature.

I find it interesting that parents of autistics on that board are

allowed to say horrible horrible things to spectrumites (email me

privately, or talk to Donna if you know her, for examples if you want),

but then your signature is a " problem " . Its not offensive to ACTUAL

autistics.

Which host is it? Ive had run ins with Jami...

< Re: An AOL board host...

I regularly post on some AOL boards. On one board, a person was

saying some pretty mean things about autistics and saying a

particular person was a geek and acted autistic, etc. I said that

being geeky is cool, but being a dork (like them) is not. Then I

made on my sig line " I'd rather be an autistic geek than a

neurotypical dork " Apparently the term 'autistic geek' " targets a

certain group of people therefore is considered a racial slur. The

board host told me it was offensive to parents of autistics and that

it was 'reprehensible'. If the term offends, I didn't mean to, but

this board host seemed to think I deserved some sort of harsh

punishment for saying it. She couldnt comprehend the meaning behind

what was said and that saying I'd rather be and 'autistic geek' in no

way implied all autistics are geeks. But--being a geek is nothing

bad. Geeks are just akward, individual, dont try to fit in or be

cool--whats so bad about that? She should have been more offended

over the term " neurotypical dork " . Needless to say, I wont be

posting on that board anymore.

That’s the NT response to autistics, they’re either mothering or they’re

predatory,

never anything else. She was being predatory because she knew she could get away

with

it.

I know. I tried to email AOL to ask if it violated TOS and got a

generic response about racial slurs.

The board wasn't an Autism or Asperger's board. It was an inlaw

tales board. Silken is the hosts name. The board people were making

fun of autistics was a Clay Aiken board in a thread about autism.

I looked up more of her posts. She's bipolar and is a monitor on a

BP board. Also supposedly has a phd in psychology or some such.

Which would explain this: " It's not simply the fact that from a

professional personal perspective I find it utterly

reprehensible...but...I have to follow the TOS rules and not my own. "
