Guest guest
We started the B-12 shots with my 6 yo son 4 weeks ago, and have been doing them twice a week. At first, we saw a FANTASTIC improvement in purposeful speech, play skills, and overall behavior. However, the improvements have pretty much gone away, even the day after he gets a shot. He has also been EXTREMELY uncooperative in his therapies this week, although that proabably has a lot to do with the fact that we were on vacation last week, so he had a week off. We are also giving him folinic acid (800mg 2x/day), DMG, oral methylcobalamin, and doing the glutathione and Authia creams 2x/day, in addition to his many vitamin and mineral supplements and probiotic. Should we increase the frequency of the B-12 and hope for the improvements to return? Or should we put it in the (ever-growing) category of " tried it, but didn't really work " ? Thanks for any insight- Sue
Guest guest
I have had to have quite a few kids on daily methylcobalamin injections sometimes for months before they have enough in their system to go to less frequent injections. I would try giving them more frequently to see which schedule is best for him. We also found that some kids needed higher doses to get the beneficial effect. Please don't abandon it yet. Our experience: When giving my son twice-weekly injections, we got some pretty exciting results, but then he hit a plateau. However, when we started doing daily injections, he took a really big jump and gained momentum for ongoing improvements. After about 2.5 months of daily injections, my son became overactive and fairly irritating. Then we went down to every third day injections and that seems right for him. He continues to make gains. In total, we've been doing the injections for about 1.5 years. > He has also been EXTREMELY uncooperative in his therapies this > week, although that proabably has a lot to do with the fact that we > were on vacation last week, so he had a week off. Every time that my son makes a developmental spike, we nearly kill him. He becomes obstinate, in-your-face defiant, just impossible at every turn. We've been going through this periodically for nearly two years. Thankfully it only lasts about a week or two. I was really concerned about it and spoke with Dr. McCandless about it. She said that he was likely becoming more aware of his capabilities and giving them a test run (of course on a full tank of testosterone!). This week we are currently experiencing one of those spikes. Not only is my son getting into things that are clearly off-limit, he's making sure that his defiance doesn't go unnoticed. Part of the joy seems to be watching my reaction. Lynne
