In summer I also have generally higher pain levels. I haven't noticed

a difference when the weather is dry heat or humid heat - I'll have to

pay more attention to it this coming summer. I much prefer winter ;>

I have been in alot of pain this summer. I feel like it is due to the

humidy. Has anyone noticed this? If your pain has increased when it is

I have it worse when the weather is gonna change, it doesn't seem to bother

Hi Guys!

The humid air is killing me. But I have to be honest, I can't stand really

hot and humid weather, but really cold weather kills me. It has been in the mid

90's here with alot of humidity and my husband gets mad at me for turning off

the air conditioner. If it is on, I am wrapped up in a blanket ~ I just can't

do it. I am freezing right now, and hurting so badly. I am going to try to get

in to see the doctor tomorrow for my pain. I am on Neurontin, but it isn't

helping with the pain. I feel like I am begging for something to help me!!

Around here, there aren't many doctors that even know what you are talking about

I hear you on the neurontin...Gabapentine (generic

word for same) was dumped in me for a long time...I

kept saying...the beast-spasm still lives, and my poor

swollen knees were just awful...my shoulders and spine

also being eaten up with osteoarthtitis....

You're right on...the frustration... " why Dr's are so

damn afraid to treat pain properly " ? I asked that

myself as the pain and spasms went on and on....and

got worse while they danced around real pain meds...

In desperation..anything to slow down the pain while

the doctors do the dance so they won't have to use

pain meds, a pain patient may turn to alcohol or

anything just to slow the pain down....(Back to the

" Do no harm " promise.) Wonder if they even think of

that while they leave people in pain.

Neurontin (gabepentine) does nothing for pain and

spasms of fibro and osteoarthritis.

How many pain patients were made really sick doing

this?

At the end of next month I have to see the doc to undo

what that PA did...and hope he sticks with me. It

scares me to death to think the workable part of my

treatment is going to be taken from me...cause of the

No-Pain-Meds-Dance. I wonder if they think they are

doing a great thing for mankind with this...protecting

us from the evil narcs or just try to look good on

paper.

Hi Rose, Tammy,

I'm also on Neurontin. We tried amitriptyline and the pain got worse.

I have muscle pain, but recently I've been having what I call nerve

pain as it's more similar to the sharp stab I get when the sciatic

nerve is pinched.

For some fibro patients, the neurologist I see has had success with

both medications. I've only been on it a week, and am taking it very

slow in increasing the dose as I'm terribly sensitive to medication.

If you have a look at Remedy Find, neurontin works for some, and

doesn't for others. Some say the side effects were worse than the

pain when off it, so they stop.

I think it's a matter of finding what's right for you by trial and

error, because it seems that what will work for fibro is varied for

each individual.

I'm currently being tested for sarcoidosis :-\ Results in 6 weeks.

Hi TAMMY MY NAME IS Don and I have RSD another lovely nerve disease. I am

sorry to hear that Neurontin is not helping you! I have been on it for over

two months and ihe only thing it has done for me is to make me so

constipated that I am so miserable it's almost as bad as the nerve pain the

best I can do is use milk of magnesia every couple of days but that stuff is

so reactive I cant leave the house for several hours.Plus all the pain meds

make it even worse.the only thing that really helps with the pain is toget

out of bed , out of the house and go do something that I enjoyI really hope

the Neurontin helps you I have spoken with one person who was helped by

it.Best wishes ,Please get back with me if you know something that works

better than milk of mag.Don in Mi.

Hi Everyone

Yes Neurontin is for seizures, but Drs. have found that it also

works for pain and not just nerve pain. They feel Neurontin is the

new pain med. I take Neurontin 200mg twice a day and Lamictal 200mg

twice a day for chemical imbalance (bipolar). They keep it in check

most of the time. The pain management Dr. has tried upping the

Lamictal - she says that it should give me relief for my neuropathy,

but it doesn't. She also increased the neruontin saying it should

give me some relief, but it hasn't so I'm back down to my regular

dosage. The Neurologist and Pain Dr. had told me in April (last

time I saw them) that their isn't anything they can do for my pain -

that I'm going to have it for the rest of my life and that I need to

just live with it. No matter what I do, I'm in terrible pain 24/7.

Hi Don

I get constipated with the meds I'm on. Instead of Milk of Magnesia

try a stool softener with a gentle laxative. I take two at bedtime

and have a BM about an hour after I wake up. Maybe it will work for

you.

When this clinic had me on Gabapentine (neurontin) and

robaxin and what all...before I found pain groups, I

went to that site " Ask the experts " and asked a

pharmacist about it. Told him how much pain there was

and this was what they were using, and he

answered...and it almost sounded angry..he said to

insist that my doctor put me on pain medication and

stop using something like that that won't help.

It was an interesting reaction but it was as if he's

used to doctors dancing around pain meds when we

really need them.

I'm so sick of this pain med phobia that is so

rampant.

Tammy,

Have you tried Lyrica yet? I feel it helps me alot more then the Neurontin,

but others haven't had much luck with it, so you never know til you try it.
