Guest guest
Hi , Our son was identified at approx. 3-4 years of age. At that time he had been having night terrors that seemed more like he was in pain..and he was inconsolable for extended periods in the middle of the night. (obvioulsy a bit of a drain) This was 8 years ago. Within a week the night terrors decreased to almost nothing. Shortly thereafter, pretty much gone. A couple things to note: 1) Just because it works for one, doesnt mean it will for another. 2) Dairy processes out of the system within a couple of days. 3) Wheat takes approx 8 months to get out. 4) If you are going to do this, prepare yourself for the work involved and committ to it ahead of time. If not, you will likely feel overwhelmed in a short period of time and not continue. (That being said, if you fail to keep to it..do your best and keep striving for better) 5) Do not look at this with the " magic pill " viewpoint. As with any other methodology, protocol, or behavioral technique you need to be patient. If you see great progress in a short period of time, take it and throw a party as you may have hit the jackpot. My experience is that most things will take time and will almost be imperceptable to the parents as we are so close to this on a minute by minute basis. 6)Include the removal of sugar from the diets as well. We really didnt need all that soda in the 70s and neither do our kids. (that being said I do have a 45 with the old Coke song on it..) You will find that in addressing the sugar issue you will find little tidbits that will seem odd..like...red apples have more sugar than that of other colors. There are a lot of products that are premade now that did not exist before, but the expense is still there. While the benefit for this and many of the other things we have tried over the years are somewhat hard to quantify, we honestly believe that what we have witnessed as a result of adhearing to the GFCF diet is an ability to grow further than he might have otherwise. Better to err on the side of caution in either case. The worst case scenario is you end up with a healthier child. 8 months is a long time to wait for even the smallest progress, but if your going to do it..committ and stick to it. > > Anyone have any GFCF stories they can share with me?
