Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, Kathy. We have seen " glimpses " of the OCD symptoms wax and wane, but they have been so subtle, that it's almost been hard to recognize them changing. hadn't had any major problems like he did until this time last year. Then all heck broke loose. It was a sudden onset of symptoms and really bad.He couldn't function beyond fearing that he was dying. It's amazing because we'd been through his losing two grandparents and my losing a baby to an ectopic pregnancy the year before and yet none of those triggered it. Ever since we took him all all SSRI's and allowed his body to get rid of them all, things started getting better. The hand-washing was the only real symptom he had after that. So, the new psych put him on Prozac for that, and he's done really well. Will even shake hands! We still see things that cause him to not touch things, but I think it's become more of habit than anything. He's done so well over the past year. And then for it to hit around the same time as last year. We saw the psych on Tuesday, and he thought it was because of the swimming instructor-who is nicknamed " Mean " because she works the kids hard. He knew he wasn't going to pass-which I see as a glimpse of maturity. (He hadn't had formal lessons in two years and the last person who taught him played more than taught, and never made sure the kids learned the skills.) He was okay with that. We discussed all that and he realized that he had a reason for not passing. And he was okay with it. Although, of course, I'm disappointed for him.) The psych did give me Xanax for emergencies. But hasn't had anymore problems since Monday night! So, whatever was triggering it was overwith. He did have a trip coming up today that he was going on and his best friend-who normally allows him to go and not worry about things is not going, so I am proud of the fact that he went! So I don't know if that was a source of anxiety or his getting his teeth worked on tomorrow. But so far things are back to normal. He's sleeping and not complaining about any physical problems. So hopefully this will continue! Thanks again, Melinda in VA
