Guest guest
Alright, all you kefir experts. I finally got some grains and mixed them up with 2 cups of raw mini-Jersey milk. I did this last night and this is what happened: -This morning there was about a 1 " curdled layer on top. I mixed the jar up and the curds mixed with the rest of the milk. -When I got home from work, about 21 hours after mixing the grains with the milk, the whole jar had separated into curds and whey and the contents basically " rised " to the top of the jar with a lot of air in the jar. -I opened the jar and it smelled like rising dough- very yeasty, very pleasant. -The contents looked liked cottage cheese on top and whey underneath. -I then attempted to mix the contents by tipping with the lid back on and nothing moved. -I then took a spoon and mixed it all up, loosening the top layer so the curds mixed with the whey-- it then looked like what I would guess kefir is supposed to look like; loose yogurt. -Now the jar is in the fridge and beginning to seperate again. To the Experts: does this sound right? Should I strain it? Should I drink it?
Guest guest
, Bro, you got kefir! That sounds totally right. You should strain the grains out and drink the kefir. Then do it all over again. And again, and again. Mmmmm. Down girl.
